@Vicjustice:
The answer to your question might--or might not--surprise you!    Cheesy

Do you mind if I inquire as to why you ask?

The formation characteristics of your posts and your language expressions perterns don't seem to me that you're a Nigerian: though i suppose you are, but i expect you've been in the state for ages. Am i wrong?

Well, here's my story:  I am black, though not of Nigerian background.  I was born in Canada, but have lived in the US since I was a child.

I would like to visit Nigeria at some point.  It looks to be a beautiful country--and, if those on this site are indicative, then the people seem to be delightful, as well!

I thought as much, there's this distinctive characteristic in your posts that suggest to me that you're not a Nigerian, and yet, little did i expect you're American because, you write intellectually, not in slangs.
Nigerians (at home) are very warm hearted to foreigners, you're welcome to our country Smiley

You flatter me with your comments that I "write intellectually."  Thank you very much for your kind words.  I hope you do not mean that my writing seems too formal, affected or pompous!   Undecided

I try to avoid slang usage in this type of forum because many people who read the posts might not have a working knowledge of American slang (indeed, such words and phrases change so rapidly, I'm not sure that I, myself, have a working knowledge of them!).   For that reason, I try to use standard English so as many people as possible will understand me, and at least consider what my posts might have to say.

I'm not flattering you in any way, i said what i see, in fact, others guys say the same thing Smiley.
  I'm glad many people knew, and others are beginning to understand that what they called Tribalism is indeed RACISM: This is my purpose of starting this thread.
  I started this thread because i wanted to bring to the awareness of Nigerians that what they refere to as Tribalism is indeed RACISM.
  We are a people of about 150 million, with over 200 languages and divers dialects, we have different characteristics and lacking resemblance except that we're blacks, and more still, we have different roots of origins: isn't it ridiculous that most Nigerians think that the difference between these ethnic groups is Tribe? Of course, it's RACE
  I'll continue to bring into light that Race is not just the colours of the skin, remember that the Aborigines in Australia have black skins, but that doesn't make them the same race as the Urhobo people

Hey.

Onitsha is not really Ibo, they claim to be more bini that Ibo.

Racism has to do with the 5 races : Caucasian, Negro, etc (I don't know them all), so discrimination/prejudice between Ibo and yoruba is not quite racism, though it is definitely an ism.

Now this is what I call racism: I worked in Naija for 4 years. When I left, I was earning about 150K per month. I came to jand. No masters, no PHD, I worked at T-mobile for 11 months, and let my hair grow (dreadlocks). I got acontract with a mobile phone company paying me £450 per day.

Now here's the funny part: The role I had during the contract was the SAME role I had 11 months earlier. We have little respect for our own.

When I left me, they brought in some european guy to do the work, they paid him £750 per day. I moved back to the UK and started working with the Ericsson. The same european guy was on the phone with me practically 24 hours a day asking me questions about how everything worked. Twice I had to fly down to lagos to bail him out (During this period some of you guys would have had problems topping up your phones, christmas/new year 2004).

We have NO respect for our own.

@Banderas
  If the difference between Igbo and Hausa is "tribe", what then is the difference between an Onitsha man and an Oweri man; also, what's the defference between an Ijebu man and an Abeokuta man?

hahaha. When people mention racism in the political term, they aren't talking about the dictionary term race, they are talking about the 5 biological races. If you want to descend into semantics Vic, feel free, just don't expect me to have that sort of discussion with you.

We're discussing nigerians being more racist, and not the definitions of race.

@Banderas:
With all due respect, sir, if a discussion about racism is to be had, should not the terms of that discussion be defined first?

Good observation drrionelli. I wonder why people use terms when they have no concept whatsoever of the definitions. You are using the word race and you do not even know the basic definitions.  To make your argument, you then decide to make up your own rules as you go along.  Na wah oh!

I feel that you should be with who ever you want to love.  Regardless of Tribe or Nationality.  Your family should be there for you no matter who you deside to marry.  And if there not then oh well.  Too bad for them.   Grin
