Hello Yemmight
its been awhile am, Hr is a very interesting career especislly if you work in a coy that is as diverse as mine.
Actually am working on the training for staffs in my coy, and my company is a family owned business.

Though my M.D is ok but his reluctance in approving the training is that staff might leave the coy after undergoing training. So yemmight is there any ethical agreement that staff can sign that would state for how long a staff would stay after been trained to avoid ''brain drain '' for the coy.

HR professionals are few in the country and because HR is dynamic i.e not static. There are new innovations everytime. It depends on what your organization is looking at. We have the HR generalist, HR consultant attached to each group in an organizational chart and line managers acting as an HR personnel. An HR personnel constant innovation is required at the moment in most organization cause the most cherished resource in an organization is the human resource. At the moment in Nigeria Banks , the dynamics of HR is required because there are retention issues in most banks thus the required innovative experience of HR personnel are needed to cubbed the maliase in the industry otherwise banks would soon have a scenerio of overpriced staff ,under productive output and adjusted balance sheet. Nigeria banks strategy of retention is the salary increase which at the long run is non sustainable. HR sustainability retention plan should actually see beyond the immediate rather than constant future provened strategy. To be continued

Hello Fellow HR-landers,

As an HR professional in diaspora wanting to return home, I need key information concerning HR nomenclature in Nigeria, the level of experience (in terms of years) criteria required for each of the grades and specific range of compensation attributable to the positons. I have over 5 years of administrative experience of which 2 is in a HR generalist role in a Travel and Tourism organisation in the UK.

I have a masters in human resource management and I'm CIPD graduate.

I will appreciate if anyone with valuable network and information within and outside this professional forum, could drop me a feedback regarding my enquiry and also provide contacts that can help with my job search.

Thank you.

Hi Everyone,

been on nairaland a while now. However, just came across this forum today. I have found a lot of nice stuff to read up in here. Well done to all you people that have kept the HR flag flying.

As for me, I have a couple of years of HR under my belt. Been in HR since 1989. And, I have worked in a couple of organisations. Now, I work in a consulting outfit. Would be nice to share ideas with others of like mind.

Once again, well done everyone.

Re: Human Resource Professionals:

Somebody request for this.

Gratuity is payment made to an employee on the expiration of the contract of employment after the approved years, which is separate from and additional to the payment made to him as his final entitlement. The new Pensions Act has provided a basis for the computation of this.

• The new Pensions Act recommends that a gratuity payment be given to employees who are leaving an organization    having worked five years and above in addition to final entitlements and Retirement Contribution Accounts (RSA) with PFA’s.

• The law requires that 100% of the total final emolument (annual gross) be paid to exiting staff who has spent the minimum number of years to qualify for gratuity.

• This increases to by 8% with each succeeding year until 10 years in service where it goes back to 100%. This is so because if the employee has attained the age of 50, he is entitled to 30% of his final emolument as pension.

• In addition to the government option, three other options have been explored. They are as follows:
• Option B: One month salary for every year spent (current salary).
• Option C: 50% of current monthly salary for every year spent.
• Option D: Sum of monthly salary as earned in each year.

The Proposed Gratuity Payment Schedule
According to the New Pensions Act, a person is entitled to gratuity after five years in service. Gratuity is computed on the final emolument of an entitled person.

Gratuity Table

@ Nobleman,

you might want to start your professional training with the CIPM itself. You canvisit their office at Alausa, behind Elephant Cement House. Alternatively, go to their website and check out what they have. You may also use the opportunity to call them up.

Meanwhile, you did not state whether you are professionally qualified. If not, you might also use the opportunity to start your professional qualification too.

Best of luck.

@ yemmight, well done. Good job. Smiley
