With regards to the  above, I reckon we should resuscitate this thread. Right, in as much as I am not too  grounded with the financial  labour market in Nigeria;I can give a little hint as regard recruitment from a strategic HR percepective which is my discipline. With corollary to what Jarus  noted in a thread I  came across on  recruitment, I am of the view  that the few bits hereunder will be of  little help in event you get called for an interview in a seemingly hopeless "tipping point" that has rocked the entire financial world. Hence, the onus falls on you to take  the bull by the horn cause another person  is outthere ever willing to take your spot.

It is imperative for one to note that the the days of closed-ended questions in interviews are long gone, hence it is high-time u braced up for a opened-ended question s which cuts across every discipline. What do I mean?
In emerging HR,this process is called STAR , process audit ,or behavoural cum situational approach.More importantly, do note that this approach is aimed at appraising and evaluating your fluency cum competence. Therefore, you need to launch  all the arms in your grammatical arsenal in a succinct form.

S: This simply depicts what you did in a certain situation. Hence, if u claim you have worked  probably in  an accounting firm ,it is expected of you to state a situation where you probably have salvaged a situation with your accounting prowess.

T: This acronymn stand for Target,in addition  it entails a target you were given to attain.

A:  Denotes action, these are the  steps you took in attaining the target.Issues to tackle here include:how you  probably dealt with limited funds, the chain of command you employed in the course of the task among other key variables.

R:  The acronymn R stands for result, this is the eventual result of the task.

This is just my little quota thou, addendums are welcome.

@annybank90. This is a word of advice to you, and maybe to others in this category. First is to say that a career in HR is quite possible for a Biochemistry graduate, or any graduate out there. The situation in Nigeria has always been that you do whatever you get in the market irrespective of the course you studied (Medical doctors are in banks, and the most skilled Computer experts do not neccessarily have degrees in Computer Science). I also read Biochemistry, but have been in HR for the past ten years. I suspect that your switch to HR may be because of the paucity of jobs for Biochemists, which is not wrong in itself, but you need to understand what your passions are by doing whatever comes your way right now, rather than picking a field without experiencing it. HR in this century is a highly technical field that requires specialist skills, and is not at all an escape route. You need to look out for whatever opportunity is out there to sustain yourself, including teaching or organising lessons or trading, and you can certify your way to your dreams by whatever you get from there. Who knows, you just may be the next Bill Gates if you opt for IT Certifications. I was into so many thing for over five years after graduation; customer service, shirt sales, computer cloning, until my job evolved into an HR role and I had enough money to do my Master degree. There are also certifications available in HR that are cheaper than an MBA, including the Nigerian CIPMN, the British CIPD, and the American PHR, GPHR, CBP. In my opinion, only about 10% of graduate actually break early into their desired field. For the rest of us, the trick is to commit to excellence in doing whatever life offers you, and your gifts will bring you to your place. I wish you all the best.

Details of acceptance criteria for the PHR, SPHR and GPHR exams are available on the Human Resources certification Institute website www.hrci.org.

For materials to prepare, I posted the details below a while back,

1. SHRM Learning System; a set of six text books and a CD/webcasts available form SHRM. Check www2.shrm.org/learning/.
2. Human Resource Certification Preparation Program; also a set of 6 textbooks available from www.hrcp.com.
3. PHR/SPHR: Professional in Human Resources Certification Study Guide by Anne Bogardus published by Sybex.

Before HR is set up in an organization, you must have a perfect and function HR Recruitment policy to attract and retain best candidates, in my coy we have a policy on Recruitment & that has since been a procedure, please find attached a policy on recruitment.  Do tell me if it is ok and make your suggestions where necessary, I will appreciate.  Thks

Yemmite, your recruitment policy is excellent, taking into consideration the fact that a lot of corporate organizations don't have a good policy in place. A few missing links though! I am not sure why in your policy, you want to do a referee's check but not academic/ professional qualifications and past experience checks. If you look at page 3 of your policy, the renumeration is based on these two.
As some one with a backgrounds screening experience, i have discovered that these are the most falsified in all CVs. As HR practitioners, you will agree with me that the entire recruitment process is a haze of guess work and this has contributed in no small measure to the corruption that exist both in the public and private sectors. Policies of this nature and hr practitioners should recognize more the role of background screening in making informed employment decisions based on facts and not guess work.
Please visit www.intelvetbs.com for more info on how Background Screening can be of use to hr practitioners.

@Psalty, It all depend on your interest in HR.  If you are passionate about a people-based job (i.e. HR) then go for your MBA and while you are at it join a professional body like CIPMN and SHRM.  You'd also need to read a lot; you may try the internet.

Best of luck!

Hello everyone, nice that this actually exist.

I would like to ask the HOUR pract.with lots of experience if we could get where to intern.

I do have some years experience in admin, and little in HR and a student member of CIPMN. Not working right now,but still searching.

It would be good if HR managers can help with internship for a period of time.

The relationship being symbiotic;both parties gaining from the other.

The also helps the department in achieving organisational roles on the long run.

Thank you.
