Good.  She should go and register with CIPM even now that they are preparing for February exams.  She can also attend some lectures at CIPM tutorial centers before exams.

By doing this, she will be groomed.

Hi Yemi,

Seen the great contributions you have been making here.  Well done,  I am a HR professional, been in the game a while ;-).  I run a lot training and consulting programs.  We are actually working on a program for new HR professionals although it's been marketed to our corporate clients.  Would you be interested in working on a seminar for budding HR people?  Your commitment to the profession is commendable. I am also very passionate about  what I do so when I see similarities it makes me glad.

I am unable to post any details on the seminar and training here.  The forum always seems to delete it so I am not sure what the problem is.

Dadde,  For your interview I suggest you get familiar with the key activities of a typical HR department i.e HR lifecycle which covers recruitment, performance management, training and development, compensation and rewards, career management etc. At your level HR strategy and planning will not be key but knowledge that the key hr activities should be aligned to the hr strategy which in turn should align with the corporate strategy is a plus.

More importantly, you should be familiar with the administrative tasks involved in the hr department, as based on your experience, you will more likely be supporting a more experienced person so you would be expected to understand aspects of employee relations, interpreting policy, leave processing and administration, record keeping i.e. the more day to day transaction based processes

I discovered several friends who have gone through and completed their CIPM examinations going in for ICAN an I wonder why. Is there any particular need for an HR practitioner to undergo ICAN certification in pursuance of a career in HRM?

Please advise.

In this evolution of human resource management where HRIS and accounting packages are dominating everywhere, for the providers of HRIS, there’s need for their facilitators to be exposed to processes in accounting if they have to be relevant indelivering good lectures.

Software providers now include both accounting and human resource i.e. Human Manager also has SUN as their accounting package while Oracle and Sage have both.  These companies use same facilitators. They can function well in both Account and HR.  I presume this is main reason they are diversifying

Re: Human Resource Professionals:

Flexibility Planning is a subset under HR Planing.

I think it bothers on how flexible the resources (human being) are in terms of multi-task/multi-skill to quickly adapt to the emerging business trend in an organization.

Some people also advocate for flexibility planning under compensation management in terms of the options available for reward e.g. time-off versus leave pay or car versus transport/car allowance, stock option versus bonus payment.
