Why is Nigerian educational qualification not recognized in other parts of the world?

Because of the standard of education.  A person who made 1st class in a course could not defend himself.  Simply corruption in education.  Everybody is aware of that throughout the world.  'Nigeria na wa'!

because they know it is possible to have a certificate here in Nigeria without stepping into school.

what about the "strikes", whereby someone taking engineering for example takes 10 years instead of 4? Why should the degree of a univeristy be recognised, if its graduates certificate contains 1995-2006, for just an engineering course?

It's accepted, if you have the right papers. And you are in the right place where there's no racism.

well, the decay in Nigeria Educational system is so alarming that it is hot enough to spread butter on.  I mean all over the world it is known that Nigeria breed a system that is so easy to infiltrate. This makes everything possible in its wake. Now, the rush is UK certificate, before long now what we will be seeing is a lot of "TORONTO" UK certificate. well that was what we were taught to do by our foremost democratic leader(s).
God saves us. I personally believe we will get the best out of Nigeria one day.

India certificates were not a good certificate in Nigeria in olding days. Because of over production, Nigerian parade world labour market with various certificate today as Indian did then. Nigerian trained  Doctors and Nurses are still hot cake anywhere in the world today why is it so?

Because they are old products of Nigerian universities and they competent, and before they lost their experience in the Nigerian medical scene of daily repetition (Imagine a Gynacologist that is forced to become a Family Doctor, thats Nigerian scenario for you.), they migrated outside.

Well "said" objibb

I don't understand why the state and local governments don't make more of their own universities. We can't have only the feds and private peopl doing it. The more universities the more competition and the better quality. Nigeria needs about 1000 universities more

it is recognised, only that it will be screened to the last, because people believe that Nigerians are too good,i mean they might not even go to school, and they'll have certificatessss. sometimes they even say some Nigerians are over qualified.

I don't know about you, but I owe my present position today to what the Nigerian system taught me.  Today, I mingle with the very best specialists (in my field) that you will find in the UK.

This is the most ridiculous assertion ever made. I had a HND from Nigerian. With that certificate I obtained an MSc in Belgium (from the 36th best university in the world). Now I am pursuing a PhD in Germany in the best lab in Europe and the 8th  best globally. My dear, Naija certificates are recognised. The difference is in grade obtained, and importantly, and how well you are able to compete during interview sessions for scholarship. It is an individual thing.

@ thread starter
If your statement is a fact
It is false.  Nigerian education is recognized in other parts of the world, maybe not always looked upon as "prestigious".
Definitely recognized.

The above poster (MP007) is wrong in comparing grades in the US to grades in  Nigeria. An A in the US is 93% and above while an A is 75% in some high school in Nigeria but have you heard of the term grade inflation which schools in the US suffer from. If you attend a good school in Nigeria it would be very easy to get good grades in the US even though you struggled in Nigeria.

I couldn't agree w/ you more. lol
Nigerian education is a lot more rigorous than in the US. I swear the smartest people in the US are almost always from foreign countries. India, china, germany, nigeria etc
US is getting dumber and dumber everyday so they need students from other countries i guess.
