See what you talking about i know of someone who finished from Unilag and works for this famous newspaper around won't mention the name uptill today they don't pay him as much as you think and he his a BSC holder. so ab eg do part-time abeg and continue with your work ! leave those people wey say make u go school straight, when hungry hit you wella wella you go know what's up.

BUT THE FACT STILL REMAIN THAT I STUDIED ELECT/ELECT ENGINEERING AS MY N.D AND I AM WORKING AS A CONTRACT TELLER AND THE CONTRACT IS GANNA LAPSE BY OCT 2008 THOUGH IT MIGHT BE RENEWABLE WHICH MEANS THE JOB EXPERIENCE IS NIL.AND COME TO THINK OF IT,I HAVEN'T COME ACROSS ANY UNIVERSITY OFFERING ENGINEERING AS A P/T AND IF THEY DO IT IS WEEK DAYS AND HOW WILL I COPE IS THE QUESTION.MORE OVER YABATECH WOULD HAVE BEEN A VERY GOOD CHOICE OF MINE BUT THEY OFFER their ENGINNERING PART TIME IN WEEK DAYS ALSO.

You need the DEGREE, not for a job but for yourself for your confidence, for your future. I was in ABU for six years, wasted time struggling with medicine; i failed woefully, which i'm not ashamed of because it has taught me to rise against all odds, i dropped out, came back to lag, got a job paying 40k. i was threatened once by my boss and it got me thinking, if i get sacked whats next, you know how hard it is to get a job, i have a business plan but i'm still saving for it. In the mean time i decided to do something about my education. I am presently a 100level student in LASU part-time. I don't feel embarrassed to be amongst very young chaps, (not like i'm that old) now i know what i want to study, not for another job, but for myself and for my future business. I work in the day time ,go to school in the evenings, its hectic,but worth it,you have nothing to loose, except no time to catch trips  which you can do without if you mean business. You should go back to school not because people think you should but because you want to. Try part-time!! Wish you all the best |

Old boy, whether weekends or every evenings, degree is degree. Follow the part-time option as others have said, they have given you good advice. I tell you, if you enter school without enough to cater for yourself, A-Four Year Course will be like 8 Years Course. I repeat, follow the part-time option. I'm out.

I'm in evening because i have to go to work, so my classes are from 5.30 to 9.30. Its very stressful but its a sacrifice i'm willing to make. If you want part-time be ready to make sacrifice, in the long run it will benefit you. Don't look at the present , look at the future, where you want to be, in years to come you can't earn that salary forever, its human nature, someday you'll want more than that.  |

My Dear!,a bird at hand is better than ten thousand in the bush, be wise, don't make the mistake of quiting your job to avoid regret in future, I am eqaully an OND holder and wish I have that kind of job you have and sincerely woun't quit my job for a God knows Bsc or whatever, be wise, do the part time programme and save your self the regret at last.
There so many Bsc's that doesnt have that kind of pay, even if you graduate today and come out to look for a job, you are actually going to start life afresh, the so called Bsc holders ( freshers) in a bank today, how much do they earn, they are not better than you are.
BE WISE!!!!!!

Please go through my former post if you haven't done so already. Now that you have added more details, my earlier suggestions become more relevant. Let me explore one of my options in more detail.
Look at it this way. You have a contract job that expires in October, 2008 which may/may not be renewed. Assuming it is renewed, it will not be for ever. Sooner or later, it must expire. What do you do after then? You will still look for another job with your ND. But if it is not renewed, you find yourself in the labour market sooner than you think! Either way, you will still look for a job, soon. That is a fact. It means you lose 2 ways- the job and the forgone further studies.
Be proactive about this before it happens. Plan for it. You are in a good field- Elect/Elect Engineering. Getting employed or creating one should be easier with a degree than with a ND. At best with your ND, you will end up a technician!
This is my candid advice:
- Between now and the expiration of the contract in Oct. 2008 is 15 months (excluding this current month). You already have N250k saved. You can plug that in a good investment plan with a minimum tenure of 15 months. A good one will be mutual funds (IBTC funds, ARM discovery etc). This will ensure you don't lose your money unlike direct investment in shares. Let's say this gives you at least 75% returns (there is no reason why it shouldn't be more). This brings you to about N430k by Oct. 2008.
- Next plan to save at least N10k from your pay for the next 15 months. You may increase it if you can. You can then increase your investment in the mutual fund monthly starting from next month. This will give you additional 150k in funds (by Oct. 2008) plus the appreciation, say another 40% since it's cummulative. This should give you about N210k by then.
- By the expiration of your contract in Oct 2008, you would have about N640k in funds. That is a good time to start your studies full-time, if you take that option. In other words, defer your admission till then. You don't have to sell all your funds at once by then. All you need to do is to sell the quantity you require for your monthly upkeep in school. The mutual funds give that flexibility. You just go to the house in charge, fill a form and in 4-5 days you have your money, while the remaining keeps appreciating to last for the entire duration of your study and maybe beyond.
Be wise and look ahead!

My dear brother the best advice as being given so far but let me also share my own experience; after my OND I secured a good employment were i am earning close to 30k but before i got this job, while I'm running my ND as a part time student I work in a clinic were our highest pay Doctor collect 30k as a salary, that also depend on their years of experience. A fresh graduate with little or no experience earn 20k.
I am also thinking of having a degree but not on a full time but part time studies.
My advice is try and talk or write your boss telling them your interest in furthering ur education but before then find out every details, about the time most especially. have this, pray that God should touch your Boss and the other management before writing them.

my dear friend let me give u a true life example about the usefulness of education.
where I work there is this guy,who is an accounting graduate, i.e just Bsc. he was then earning less than 70k. he decided to further his education by sitting for ICAN which he passed. Imediately, he left the company and went to tantalizer where he was paid over a 120k. he got another job at KPMG where he is being paid over 300k. presently, now he is in texas on a course which the company will foot all the bills.
lest I forget all these is happening with a space of 5months.
see no one can predict tommorrow. u might be fired tomorrow or a new management might come into place which might review everybody's educational qualification and if urs is not updated u might be sacked or retrenched. then to get another job with ur qualification that will pay as much as 35k will be very very difficult or impossible.
there will come a time when Bsc holders will be just mere receptionists. when that time comes where will be your place in the society. do u know that in the next 10 years that 35k wont be able to settle ur bills.
so my dear brother think twice and aim high.

Good evening, I may not have much to say and may not sound reasonable to all but I want to say I will advise you rather go to school. The truth is your education will surely open doors for you. I want to let you know that there are jobs out here its just that we have a fewer qualified people. Qulaification not in the class fof degree but in the individual. The truth really is you are what you see yourself to be. And that is why a whole lot of graduates are roaming about because they never believe they can get the rightful job. In nigeria now qualification is very important,,
if u want to succeed.
U dnt have to look at ur present status , but project ahead to d future.
think of what u wil lik to b in d next 5 to 10 years.
am sure u wil realise u need more qualifications.
But hav faith in GOD n try to apeal to ur employers if dey can sponsor u to school
even if its a meagre sum, so that on holidays u can come and work for them.
because if its direct entry u hav only about 2 1/2 years to speend in school.
please dnt through this opurtunity away, try to seek for sponsorship any where, like in ur
churches or Mosques, ur Bosses in d ofice n so on.

hey, my advice to u is that u should continue ur work for now so that u would be able to save enough. with what u have and u are planing to invest part and u have no sponsor how the do u want to cope with academics. once u start school again, u will be needing much money. my advice to u is that u should to save enough for ur studies and go full time so u do what u have to do once and for all and then u are back in the labour market better and more qualified.

photocopier machine or something, while u are still working.
Don't leave ur job unless u get a better one o!
