I HATE GHANAIANS  . If you've been to Ghana before - i was there 4 a few wks early last year - and have been labeled all sort of rude names because you are nigerian then i think that you'll understand me. Ghanians are actually the ones that hate Nigerians because they feel threatened by us. There's this kind of overwhelming presence that nigerians carry around with them, and i mean positively overwhelming! Many Nigerians don't even remember that Ghana even exists and i am one of them, definitely  @Topic You are tripping right? --------  ----------When we actually named an "ugly" multicoloured stripped bag "GHANA MUST GO", why won't they hate us? The ultimate "arrogance" displayed by Nigerians against Ghananians! You expect them to forget past insults----while heaping new ones on them? Just like asking Biafrans to forget the "civil war" in Nigeria's history! Well, it is going to be part of our collective shame for a very long time!!!!  So please do not pay back hate for hate! Let us look for ways to redress our past mistakes by being less arrogant and unnecessarily intimidating for no reasons at all!!!!!  There are a lot of things that make me ashamed to be called a Nigerian---Lack of humility and sheer crude arrogance are some of them! Oh girl, check yourself oh! We are not fighting amongst ourselves here. You are actually dissing a neighbouring country who could be an ally someday. That is why America has so many enemies today! I say check yourself oh! |

When i was in secondary school i used to argue with a ghanian classmate that nigeria is better than ghana, rubbish. Pointless rubbish! Maybe if i had used my time well i would have had all As.
Ghanians and nigerians are more similar than different.

i've head about the whole ghana/nigerian thing but haven't really seen for myself. actually ghanians are pressed about nigerians. i don't know about others but as for my own exprience, once you tell them that u nigerian, then they start their own. they start asking questions and saying i love nigeria and blah blah. this one ghana man ask my mom where she was from and she was like she is form naija and the guy start saying when you go back, can you take me and he said he loves naija more than we do. i was like  . wtf? okay whatever. thats why my family don't like telling people that they are nigerian so they keep quite until it is time to talk because people be saying crazy things to u once they know u nigerian. when i was in the shoe store with my grandma, this african guy that works there, i think he was from benin or something like that, but anyway, he asked us where we from because of my grandma's accent and she was like africa and then he was like i know, what country and then we said we were from nigeria and he started saying, oh nigerians have money, they are rich people and these others things. he was just saying it just so we can buy more shoes. my grandma cursed him out at the end and that was it. |

lol, this is sooo funny.  when i was growing up everyone talked well about Ghanians: their accent, good teachers, honesty etc. now Ghanians have become so much like Nigerians. their accent is different, more like ours now. they are into 419, i think they kind of envied our free lifestyles and our big spending, and by hating on us have copied a lot of our bad attitudes. if only they could take these evils away from us totally, afterall, they have a way of cleasing themselves. |

That wasnt my experience when I was there in 2005. Very friendly and accomodating folks. Got friends there now and still in touch regularly.
As an aside, if they hate Nigerians so much, I wonder then why many of us are relocating to Ghana.
Are you sure you've told us the whole story? I love Ghana! And the way they always say 'oh' in nearly every sentence or 'charlie' amuses me. God bless Ghana

OK UM. I don't hat Nigerians i just get mad when nigerians like to make them selves superior. I had a friend who told me that nigerian people are prettier, nigerians are smarter blah blah blah. then i turhn around and do better in school. I'm still her friends but u can't down someone elses country. there are beautuful nigerians and ghanaians and smart ghanaians and nigerians. When i go out lots of people mistake me for being nigerian we are the same people. all of west africa looks alike. both countries have accomplishments. Nigerians have a good economic state. ghana is working on ours. recently our money has been changed and is now worth more then the US dollar. Ghana was the First black country in africa to gain independence. Y do we have to put each other down when one gains something that is good. lets celebrate the fact our peers in other countries are doing well. and when i travell with my bigg sister and her boifriend. they give us dirty looks because my sis i ghanaian and her fionce is nigerian. The way some people spread their biased opinions as if it was the general belief of everyone. I have a ghanian friend here, and not once has he ever mentioned the fact there is hatred for us as Nigerians. I remember also, my primary school days, I was tutored by ghanian teachers, why would I hate them? |

OOPS!!!!!!!!! Where on earth was i when this thread was going on? Jenny,cool down,don't just make general statements okay. Some of them hate Nigerians,but not all okay.I've experienced a bit of it,and my hubby has experienced alot of it. One thing i'm sure is not every single one of them hate Nigerians. When i was there,my country people were carrying on like they own the place- ready to give it to anyone who dares them.That is the attitude of most nigerians there,and so the Ghanaians tend to be a bit hostile.I have experienced it.It's not all of them that are that way.Some of them actually like Nigerians.they used to tell me that too.On the other hand,if you meet the bad ones, they will let you know just how much they dislike you. It happens everywhere,so please relax.  |

ghanaians are one of the most gentle people in the world. these are people who had problems and they came to nigeria. . . a country they could call brother, a country that resembles them more than any other, a country that they share a lot with, and what did nigeria do? we sent them packing and named a stupid bag . . ghana-must-go, a name that is still being used today today, ghana is in good shape, and we are streaming to their country. we no get shame? yet they even talk to us. i like the ghanainas i see in wales. they are nice people. their country is moving on. and what is more? they sent us packing from the nations cup  (i lost £60.00) |

To start with they were the ones who started the sacking o!!!! Yes they are peaceful,but those who go out of their way to 'maltreat or Nigerians exist.I lived there for 1yr+,so i can tell you.
They have something i can describe as a love-hate thing towards us. You know our Nigeria people-so assertive and always wanting to let everyone know that they are around.I think they feel a bit intimidated.That is my opinion anyway.
Ghana is not better that Nigeria o!!! When guys say it,i just smile to myself.How are they moving forward.At best,i think if there's anything like that,then the two coumtires can be placed at par.
I think the new cedi is = to NGN72 or 74,i'm not too sure. They have the 419 that the whole world would want to crucify us for. Their media uses the slightest oppurtunity to smear and kill the image of Nigeria and Nigerians.I've been there,so i know all these. I was denied a job because they said i was a nigerian even after i struggled to get a work permit.
Anyway,there's no need to relive all that now.It's in the past. I hear from a good source that the shops of Nigerians in the market has been closed for 2mths now. Is that love?
The embassy has been looking into it. They also went on a protest march that Nigerians and chinese are making all the money that should belong to them.Their market was closed for two days. YOu know say we Nigeria we dey hussle now. Na I'm they pursue the country people comot for the market.just because they have 'better' marketing strategies.
My husband tasted it too at his work place.They did not get why a nigerian should come and sit at the helm of affaires in'their' company.
I don't know if it is hate.Call it what you may,but it gets quite ugly sometimes-that i know.

sorry about your experiences. i think it's one of those things we nigerians face during migration. . . . xenophobia. the fear/hatred of foreigners. i think nigeria suffers it more than any other country because we are always on the move. while you may interprete that as a sign of hard working people i may want to see it as a sign of a people from a failed nation. that anti nigerianism is not peculiar to ghana. it is in south africa, cameroon, togo, benin, USA, UK, italy, israel, malta, cyprus, australia, even countries u can't place in the map you find nigerians there struggling to survive we lack respect as a people and even when things go wrong we can't confidently go to our embassies b/c we really don't have a caring govt. if a war breaks out in ghana today i'm not sure the fed govt will have any plan to evacuate nigeriams in ghana. but i do believe that the average ghanain will be friendly to the average nigerian. there are bad ones. sure. why not? but there are bad nigeians too.you don't need to get a work permit in nigeria but try looking for a job in a part of nigeria that is not your own part. get what i mean? so on the average, the ghanaians are nice. if i were a ghanaian, i wont talk to nigerians at all b/c of that history of ghana must go. but, thank God i'm nigerian. i feel guilty before them even when the ghana must go stuff happened when i was a little kid. if nigeria has a brother in the world, it is ghana. which other country can we relate to better? US?UK?Congo? see.  |

It just that Nigerians tend to be arrogant, and they are seen everywhere. Like my Haitian friend
asked me sometime ago, that why is it that most African she meets are Nigerians. Ghanaians hate
