Thanks abdkabir. I have a friend that works with the Nigeria MOD; he said they use ABAP for their tactical and reconnaissance application.

Beside, I don't want to study other modules that will keep me in Europe. I want to combine ABAP with WB and probably with BA. Please, if anybody that has information relating to these SAP modules in correlation to Nigeria market, could you shed more light?

I remembered at Uni, our professor then said most of us would end up maintaining systems. Only few lucky ones would ever been engaged in developing application. Damm,  was he right. Most of the applications today are already been invented. We cannot reinvent the wheel.

We can help to make legacy systems more robust and responsive by writing more intelligent API and changing their user interface. J2EE, .NET and PHP could be used as an application server.

Remember the most important core unit of any business is information. Information is transpose from data and data are stored into a database. Database is the life of any organisation, because this is where information is retracted.

Database could be useless if you cannot access it to produce intelligent information like:

1. How many men age 18-45 are in Nigeria
2. How many retired pensioners are in Nigeria
3. How many IT professionals are in Nairaland

These intelligent questions are not store in a database but we can produce such an intelligent information by querying the data contained in a data base.

Now, if you have a well defined database EIS. You can easily buy any of the application servers like J2EE or .NET and configure it to your EIS and start writing intelligent application to solve your company goals.

Thanks. It appears d Job market favours  Db related Jobs, "Systems maintainers"  and Value Added Service to customized Modules. Of all these ,it seems the DB

related function are more sought after. It makes sense though, almost all businesses need some kind of DBMS.

As regards SAP applications and implementation in Naija, the following links might be helpful:

http://www.sap.com/southafrica/company/officeloc/nigeria/index.epx

http://careers3.accenture.com/Careers/Nigeria/CareerOptions/

I would think many of the implementations in Naija are Intergration based (Netweaver) or specifics (ERP,CRM,SCM). Definately, Netweaver would be hot in Naija as many of the multinationals would want to be at par with their divisions elsewhere.

This is something I was thinking last night before going to bed. I don't know if someone has said it before. Applications are inadequate without the supplement of data particularly from a hierarchal structure like database. 1

Is this statement valid?

No! You cannot learn it in one month. For you to be proficient in it it will take a while and a lot of practice. Obviously, how long it takes will vary from one individual to another, and it will also depend on how deep you want to get with it. But, for you to be able to do it professionally, it definitely will take a lot longer than a month.

There are several threads that take you from the beginning. I'd suggest you follow the appropriate threads, download the JDK, setup your environment, get a few books and start reading and doing the examples. You can even try to modify the examples and see what you can come up with. If you have specific questions, then you can post back here.

I do not think anyone can hold someone's hand and tell them this is how you do it. How successful you are at it will depend on your problem solving skills and how hard you work at it.

Good luck!

Re: Java Programming For Dummies - Eclipse vs Netbeans...
« #272 on: November 30, 2008, 05:15 AM »

The decision of using Eclipse or Netbeans is solely your choice,  i still believe that the best way to learn is using any test editor, and compiling and running thru the command line,  I've used both Netbeans and eclipse, and eclipse is easier to configure, but they pretty much do the same thing,  Eclipse also has more plug-ins available than Netbeans,

I have been reading most of these posts from a distant and must commend people like sbucareer. I have not seen him lately? I actually registered to be able to ask if someone knows anything about how to contact him.

His posts have positively encouraged and had made me to constantly come to this forum. Now, I cannot see his post anymore. Please can some help me to track him?

Please Seun, if you banned him can you encourage him to come back, please. I am not from Africa, which I assume most of the blogger of this forum are from. We read sbucareer blog in our company. His blog has helped me a lot. Please Seun, if you are unwilling to un-ban him can you forward me link or email to contact him.

Re: Java Programming For Dummies

@Zeta

Most people do often make common mistakes in differentiating
between SCRIPTING LANGUAGE and PROGRAMMING LANGUAGE.
While the first does not require an compilation the other does. As such
Programming languages include Java, VB, C, C++, Fortran etc. While
Javascript, php, html, ehtml are all scripting languages. To start, I advice
you begin with Java and may generally add others later.

Cheers
