As per the motive, i'll pick all of the above.

I asked based on experience.

1. If you plan to have a job abroad on Oracle and get real money. Go for Oracle On Sun-solaris.
Thats power house of Key Players. I had to learn all over after leaving Nigeria.

2.  If you plan to just play with it. Go for Oracle on any other operating system.

3.  I am not sure of size of Oracle usage in Nigeria; so can't say much; But Oracle best peformed on Unix.

I have a number of ORIGINAL CDs Oracle9i, Oracle10g, Solaris10.  I could mail them to you or hand-it when am in Nigeria later this month.

I would also suggest you have at-least 2-tier architecture: client-server.  Something cheap would do; Sun Ultra 1.

Words aren't enough to express my gratitude. I can wait till you get to nigeria. I wouldn't want to inconvenience you. Thank you.  I'll return them ASAP. Hope i aint blabbing. I can't help it. I'm human(female species).

I don't know if you believe in God, but i do, and i prayed for you last night that God should bless you. I know He will. Thanks once again. Even if i don't get it, thanks for the offer. I've got to stop now. I know i'm beginning to blab Grin Grin Grin . Take care

@sleek_chic,

My Motive: I want to have as much Nigerians as possible working  internationally in all the big firms.

In my work-place, there lots of indians and I would really like to see Nigerians too.

Plus, I am negotiating to have outsource some routine jobs(server monitoring) to Nigeria but cost, infrastructure, trust are big problem.

I don't need these CD, DVD anymore. So anyone can have it.

Spread the knowledge, collaborate: Those are the key to success of the west.

Good Place to learn:

It makes you feel more proud when you see more Nigerians doing good things. I have been to places in the world and when I say I am from Nigeria; people remember JJ Okocha and are friendly to me.   I will be in Lagos on Saturday,  so Sunday is more relaxing.

I am really looking forward to naija again after 4yrs away.

@ babasin,
hope you don't mind, i put those quotes on another thread "Database Administrators On Nairaland ", and invited other DBA's for the meeting. I left out the part of the cost being on you though. Wouldn't want to over burden you.

Let us know when you will be free and which part of lagos would be convenient for you. Welcome to Nigeria

No problem. I am yet to decide between Sheraton and Eko Hotel both have advantages.

It is just that I travelled widely and to pay $370 per night it must be  world-class 4*star hotel, which I doubt these two are.

Will let you guys know by Friday.

@ larryoncol,
Quote
are you working in a production environment

Where i work, there's a thin line between production and development. We believe the two go hand in hand and that production cannot exist without development.hope that answers it.don't know what else to say :-)

@gbolia4 the first question you must ask yourself is why you want to study oracle. Your reason would decide if you can face the challenges ahead. Its not easy being a dba in nigeria because employers expect you to be born with experience. If you plan to work abroad, then it may not be so bad. The truth is that no one can make the decision for you.pray and follow your heart. I wish you the very best in your endeavours

@ jidebiz. Thanks for the comment. I think oracle is simply what you make out of it.its fun if you want it to be and boring if you want it to be. Its a continuous learning process. I look at my bosses in d office and i wonder if i'll ever be like them. Its fun. Especially when you work with people who are good at it ( like my bosses and collegues). Just make up your mind to enjoy everystep of the way. All d best too.

@ babasin  welcome to Naija. Hope u had a nice flight.

@ all hello, happy workers day

please i need help here
i have just bought actualtests brain dumps for the oracle 1z0-042 exam. but i found out that the difference b/w the feb 2006 version and the mar 2007 version is just two additional questions. i had wanted a past question like stuff to use for revision. The one i bought does not even have the new topics for the release two recently added (Since nov 2006). I want something that will give me something like the real exam questions. I have read the sybex 1z0-142 book and i have done some practice. What do i really need to pass this exam.
