my mum is from delta state, she is a dark woman, but she has sisters that her light skinned too,

To answer all your questions on why Igbo' have the highest occurence of light skin in the nigerian population resulsts in many genetic factors as well as enviroment that intermingle with each other to produce the outcome you see.
If a certain population carries a traiti say genes which cause lack of the production of melanin. .and that population breeds within its confined the result naturally would be the highest occurance of a cetain phenotypical trait in that population
To pu it simple and short Igbos carry that gene and have passed it on to their descendants who in trun populate with like individuals who carry those gene be it recessive or dominat. Genetics comes into play and boom the triat continues to manifest itself because of controlled breeding.
Wha actually causes the mutation of the gene and carries the trait is debately but enviroment, nutrition and adaptation play a major role in its sustainability.
