Seun how about researching visas for Barbados in the Caribbean, The Bahamas, Canada, Australia and the US. With your computer skills you should be able to get a visa. contact some computer consulting firms in the countries you would like to move to and find out about their sponsorship programs. Many Indians move to the US, Australia and Canada this way. Research the job boards and see which computer skills are in demand in the respective countries. Also find out about get a visa based on the factthat you are self employed with an internet company that can operate profitably any where. I would recommend that you start your research now. Once you get your visa you can choose to stay in Nigeria and do what you need to keep your visa or move to the country that has given you the visa right away. May God bless you in your efforts.
Also research Costa Rica, Belize and Cayman Island. Many Americans are moving to Costa Rica and Belize to retire. Cayman is a beautiful British Commonwealth island in the Caribbean. Cayman's economy is very good and they speak English.

I.T job market in Australia is in recession so it's unlikely that it will be a way to enter the country (offshoring is doing alot of it), though if you are certified in something (walking in off the street sadly doesn't work anymore) you should be able to get a job without too much difficulty.

I think that avanue has just about dried up as well, they seem to be checking that one alot as well (eg they phone people up here to make sure there still in the relationship) About the only realistic way left is to be bringing in a skill set to a country, eg a bakery hand or something (apparantly there is a shortage acording to a friend of mine who works at Brumbie's Bakery )

If my web-based business is making money, then I will be going to whatever country I'm going with a mind of employing people, not being employed. I hope they value entrepreneurship as much as they value skills.

Well you can pretend to be very very ill. That your illness is so bad that it can only be cured in china or in another country far from Nigeria. That if you stay longer there in Nigeria you'll transmit your illness to other people. Maybe the government will send you in another country where you'll stay forever ???I don't know There are so much things people can create in oder to have what they want have you tried that

Thanks, Hunter. The posts about "pretending to be ill" are not what I'm looking for at all.

Hey Hunter,
Have you been to the US? If so, how does Australia compare? Is it a more relaxed culture than the US?

I haven't been to the US but I've been to a few places in Europe. Life in Australia is very laid back, you can keep to yourself if you want. In terms of living standard we are third behind Norway and Sweeden. Anti descrimination laws are in place (in short no "ghettos" exist like we here all the US gangster's sing about) Generally a nice place to live :-) Unemployment rate is sitting at about 4% or 5% I beleive, so jobs are quite easy to come by at the momment for most area's (perticularly if you don't mind working in country towns (usually fewer than 10,000 people)) Lots of work is usually found on farming estates as well (though some farms up in queensland have a bit of a reputation for basically "hiring" people at minimum wage and paying them just enough to live but not enough to get away easily) There is a comprehensive welfare system as well for citizen's (differ's from the US system, you don't have to have paid anything into it. if you don't have a job (eg recently fired etc) they pay you enough money to live on (obviously you don't get enough money that you would want to be doing it all the time -- it's designed for short term eg paying house mortages and food, not so you can buy a new sports car) Thats about all I can think of for now, if you need to know anything else just post here and i'll get back to you. If you watch the commonwealth games next week you should see a fair bit of my home city, Melbourne :-)

I can attest that Singapore is a nice place (very clean) I haven't been to Hong Kong yet so I don't know
Though I've heard reports that some of the Asian countries can be quite racist towards african's, not sure if this is justified or not.

You can also make money if you come to Shanghai, though the cost of living here is high but once you have something to sustain yourself with then you don't have a problem, and getting a visa i think is not all that difficult.
