@ Donzman, are you thinking of the myth about calabar girls? crossriver and akwa Ibom folks are the best o.
If any Igbo man no find Igbo wife, calabar people are great. The women are great cooks, know how to treat a man they say. Many people from my hometown during my grandfather and older uncles time married calabar and ogoja women. They were the most beautiful women during their hay days and all the men that married 'calabar ' women as they were all called did not have second wives as was very customary them. Story had it that these calabar women were worth more than 10 women. so the man was very satisfied in all angles. This however led to allegations from jealous Igbo women that they used juju to tie the man down to only themselves.
Sadly all my calabar aunts (by marriage)have all passed away but they were the best.

look at me campaigning for calabar girls. well we all know akwa ibom and crossriver are nor just our neighbors. They are the closest in culture, looks, mannerisms to Igbos. Tons of Igbo men have calabar wives and many of their men have married our women. They also fought and died for Biafra.
Long live Cross Riverians and Akwa Ibomites. Long live NdiIgbo

Akwa Ibom is a state. Calabar is a city in Cross Rivers State. People in calabar/cross rivers speak Efik amongs other languages. People in Akwa Ibom speak ibibio, annang, etc. Efik and Ibibio sound alike to people that don't know the language. i guess thats why people don't know the difference. Hope that helped

most people generally refer to people from akwa ibom and cross river as 'calabar' just like most southerners call northerners 'hausa'

I had this Calabar boy in secondary school that often felt the need to remind us that he was Efik and those guys from Akwa Ibom are mostly Ibibio.
