Introduction to Production Management

Designed to provide Production Co-ordinators with the skills needed to run all genres of programming including factual and fact ent.

This intensive two-day course will give you a firm grounding in the skills required to take the large step up to Production Management. Topics covered include setting up and managing pre-production (including negotiation, planning and logistics), shoots and post-production; programme finance (including contracts, rights and insurance) creating and working to a production budget; copyright and how to secure clearances; health and safety, and programme delivery and compliance.

Editing Courses

Our Introduction to Final Cut Prois targeted specifically at PDs & APs, who increasingly are being expected to rough cut their own rushes to save time and money in the edit. Over the weekend, the trainees actually edit their own short film as a hands-on way of learning key skills including:

• Working with the interface – learn how to use the software – logging & viewing rushes
• Preparing to edit and constructing sequences
• Sound mixing, graphics and special effects
• How to create a project – ie import and export the media in usable formats

Z1 Shooting and Directing

Our acclaimed shooting and directing course will teach you everything you need to know about the Sony Z1, the DV workhorse of the broadcasting industry.

At the end of the two days, you will not only have an overview of the camera, its functions and how to get the best out of it but, crucially, will also know how to shoot sequences and how to shoot for the edit - making sure your directors aren't pulling their hair out in frustration in the cutting room! The course - which involves intensive hands-on practical exercises with the camera - also covers sound and lighting for DV, health and safety, and the unique editorial issues involved in using DV, giving you the full complement of skills to become a confident self-shooter.
