A magazine firm urgently require the services of an
editor for immediate employment: vacancy is for
residents of Port harcourt only.

JOB DESCRIPTION FOR EDITOR OF THE EDUCATION RESCUER
MAGAZINE

The editor shall report to the editorial board for the
effective performance of his responsibilities.
• Planning, writing, editing magazine content each
month. Ensure the smooth running of the magazine.
• Assisting in the sourcing of staff writers and
reporters
• Advising the board on editorial direction to
increase readership of the magazine
• Generating topics for articles and encouraging a
team of staff to do the same;
• Managing a team of staff and freelance feature
writers;
• Proofreading all pages after the production team has
set them out before going to press
• Maintaining and raising the profile of the magazine
• Networking with others in the industry; attending
seminars, conferences and trade
• Editing features and ensuring they are good enough
to print – this may include sending work back to the
writer with queries or a request for a rewrite
• Holding regular meetings with the whole department
to generate new ideas;
• Sending out briefs for work to writers (with a
detailed summary of what is needed, the deadline, word
count and fee, etc);
• Any other job that may be assigned to him from time
to time.

Qualification and Experience
A professional journalist:
• Must have a degree in journalism, mass
communication, language and literary studies, the
humanities, social sciences, or education.
• Must have worked in the print media for at least
five years.
• Must have good interpersonal communication skills
• Computer literacy will be an advantage.
