They do it cause its their culture just like everyone else has their. Its not a biggie. I for one don't like calling people sir. I prefer calling them by first name even if they're older than me or for the sake of courtesy/seniority I at times add Mr, Mrs. In school I call all my professors by their first name. I will use sir only if am in a situation where I HAVE TO.
