D1O's Visa Finally Came Through: Thank God
« on: August 20, 2007, 09:34 PM »

Ladies and Gentlemen,
It is my singular honour and priviledge, to announce to all of you, that my much awaited student visa application has finally come through. Funny enough, the validity of myvisa was way much longer than I asked for. I was given till January 2009. My course actually ends in Sept, 2008. However, the effective date on the visa is September 1, 2007. I wasnt hoping to travel before then anyway. I swear to God almighty, I NO FIT SHOUT.

@funkybaby
Dear sis, let the much awaited survival lessons begin, thanks for being there.

@mr  pataki, VOR, Akolawole
I may not have had any direct conversations with you, but I did read a lot f your advices to peope in my kind of shoes and that helped in their own little ways.

@swiftycool
enjoy your trip to scotland, who knows, one of these days you might come down south to england and to use your own words, "see u when we get there"

@hob_globin
Hope you picked up your passport today. Its an honor picking my visa on the same day with you.

@nkenwanyi
Heavens alone can tell the relief I got about two weeks ago when I read on Nairaland that you had also submmited your application at PHC but was also long overdue for a response. That made me realize that I wasnt really alone in the waiting game. Now look how it turned out. Thank God.

@Senetee
My brother, I no fit shout

@GOD ALMIGHTY
For the gift of all the people I mentioned here, and I lot more, a million thanks FATHER. I am so grateful.

@everyone else who has also made valuable contribution on UK student visa applications on nairaland,
I am very indebted to you and thank you for your efforts.

So is anyone going sorry coming(i feel like I'm there already) to the University of Westminster in London this September? Then I'm your pal because thats where I'm going.
So talk to you guys later, I've got to go book that flight.

Nagode Allah, Ese o Baba, Chukwu Daalu, THANK GOD

@funkybaby
Thanks for the compliments. I intend staying alone. In fact I have spoken to a couple of lanlords on the phone and have emailed a good lot as well. Presently, the university Halls of residence seem an expensive option for me because I have come to realize that some landords offer rooms with shared facilities for about 80 pounds a week outside travel zone 1. Presently, my cousin would be airborne in about three hours on his way to london. I have given him some money to source for reasonable accommodation and make any neccessary deposits pending my arrival around the 8th of september.

thats a very smart thing to do. Wink you are already taking the right ''survival steps''. student accommodation given by schools are relatively more expensive. don't waste your time and money communicating with landlord in UK from naija, they will ignore you. this is because scammers from nigeria have used ''accommodation format'' to defraud a lot of landlords. giving your cousin money to get the accommodation and pay your deposit for you i will say again is a very smart move by you.

£80 weekly?? is it inclusive of all bills with internet??? that is why is said london is rough. outside london, you will get a nice double room for £60-£65 weekly , all inclusive, with all the white goods (washing machine, toaster, etc) some even come with internet. anyway, make sure you HAMMER it on your cousin to get a place for you that is all inclusive of all bills. it makes no sense paying that much and then at the end of the month you still have to pay for gas and electricity and God knows what else.

tell him to get a single room for you. the bed will be small, but it can still take two people(although, una go dey touch body). Grin it will serve you just fine even if you have a girl friend in london. am saying this so that you can save money and not spend too much on your rent. 20hours per week is almost nothing,and you still have to study and pass.

@jaygon
am not giving you any advice. you wan go westminister for 17th august and you never submit your application. your so called location sef ''london & newyork'', me i no believe you o ! Undecided

good advice funkybaby

D10

I presume your cousin is familiar with London accomdations runs so that way he won't get a room you don't llike .

Find out about the area too so you can link shopping places, school etc. Also so you don't end up spending to much on travel
I hope he doesn't get accomodation in a place where 'orisirisi' can happen. some places dangerous for london like some parts of North london and maybe Southeast

If you trust your cousin's judgement no probs.

Just keep your head low and do not go buying things on credit in fact avoid credit cards entirely
Buy plenty things for Naija before you go like toiletries,socks, etc. Cos it may take awhile before you get a job so don't spend precious currency on 3 pounds soap and shampoo.  Patronise discount shops for weekly shopping UK is a leveller. So cut you coat to fit like lepa. Besides you'll need the cash for winter wear and buying things for your room like a desk, duvet,sheets,coats,shoes,gloves etc.

Just keep in touch with Nairaland because when that frosty english phenomena bites you may need some good old Naija warmth and encouragement here.

Like funkbaby said London tough o!

Keep your head don't you cry
You CAN make it if you try

P.S check out the thread on first job abroad

AWOOF run her belle enter debt, she couldnt finish school accmdation money finish,she begin dey hustle,more debt , she suffer wennn, no fit tell anyone, She took almost 6 months to finish thesis because she was just hustling to pay bills not to talk of transporting herself to school. na den she remember say i warn am

still boils down to the same thing. you got your stay through her. shameless man!!!

are you really sure that you are in Dublin?? if yes, then take a visit to the african foods shop and compare the cost of african foods in naija to the cost of those in UK. since you are so f*cking blind and dumb that you can't read my post and see the word ''compare''. thats the reason why i have highlighted it this time.

Re: D1O's Visa Finally Came Through: Thank God
« #30 on: August 22, 2007, 09:29 AM »

@D10

ok then. na because of us o! Cool

personally, i prefer virgin nigeria. and the only reason is because it lands at gatwick airport, which is not as stressful as heathrow. go to their website and reserve tickets-one way of course. you will get to know the cost. just print the reservation page (you will be given a code if i remember correctly), take it to their office and then pay. the reservation is no longer valid after two days if you do not pay at their office. i think you can pay online via interwitch debit cards but i think its best you pay at their office. take your passport with you-you might be asked for it.

another airline i like is iberia. but it is not a direct flight. you will be taken to madrid, spain first before you are taken to heathrow. but their tickets are relatively cheaper. Grin . the airline will help you get a transit visa (which you will have to pay for, can't remember the cost)  the last time i compared the fares of iberia and virgin nigeria for the same day of travel, it was like some 50k difference.  Grin
salsera (f)
Re: D1O's Visa Finally Came Through: Thank God
« #31 on: August 22, 2007, 08:15 PM »

50K difference

girl are you for real??

but what about the extra hours since its not a direct flight

i considered gatwick because i've experienced the stress at heathrow--- but what about connecting central london from there.
do they have direct surface trains and how much is it in pounds
