You should read the story of this poor guy, what a shame.

here are some tid bits from the article

“I broke up with her … she is not a virgin” with these words my best friend, Sparky, woke me up on a lovely sunny Friday.
“I told you ,  she is not a virgin … she confessed yesterday … I asked her if she did it before and I was sure she would say she did not … she looked so innocent … but instead she told me she did … I went deaf then numb then mad and I broke up with her … what more do you want to know?” Sparky barked back at me. I knew that he was angry and that he was not faking the attitude.

“Take it easy now and let’s break this down to little pieces.” I said carefully trying not to infuriate him. As I avoided the slightest eye contact, I took a sip of my tea and asked him “Ok … she is not a virgin … what does this say about her?”

Sparky did not take much time thinking, “She is a slut; she is loose; she is easy; she cannot be trusted; she is not fit to be neither a wife nor a mother; she did it before marriage and she is most likely going to do it after marriage.” He said with utter confidence; and as though his problem was suddenly resolved with this conclusion, he asked for the check, thanked me for my support, and left.

I think virginity is way overrated.

So, if girls lie about being virgins, because they know / suspect the guy they're with are really into virgins, then good for them. After all, how many guys who are adamant about wanting to marry virgins, can claim they are virgins themselves, and have never stolen another girl's virginity?

As far as I'm concerned, if girls lie about virginity, and the guys fall for it, the guys deserve all they get.

I agree with SienaI mean girls only lie because men push them to. I'm not saying it's right. But if guys are always saying "we must marry a virgin," "I won't marry a girl unless she's a virgin, then what do you expect her to do.

I mean, take all the threads here on Nairaland. Why all the virgin threads. . .? Personally, I feel its dehumanizing that you will value a girl only for what is between her legs rather than her personality. There are girls that are virgins that really aren't all that "moral" and some girls that aren't virgins that are some of the most virtuous out there. Its not the presence of absence of it that determines someones personalityor chance of being faithful.

@ PTB,

Aiiiyo, i drink to that.
Well said but i don't understand why the whole Nairaland is always about VIRGINITY.
These days, the word doesnt even apply anymore because SEX is now multi-dimensional.
Now u have Dry sex, Oral Sex, Anal Sex, Self-Sex(Wanking), Phone Sex, Cyber Sex, SMSex and so on and forth.
If any girl violates any of this . . . . . . . . . .Is she still a virgin? I don't think so.

I need someone to define the word virgin to me because a lot of chics who consider themselves VIRGIN are actually not VIRGINS.
Virgin in the dictionary is defined as, "being in a pure or natural state; unsullied. Unused, uncultivated, or unexplored."
Nowadays it seems that the only virgins left are our spade and neutered domestic pets, and even they still get excited around the opposite sex.
I think the best way to re-define this is to classify these group of people who claim to be virgins.

Extra, Extra Virgin(XXV)
These are the unicorns. She's has never gone beyond kissing a man, let alone performed any oral ordeals, she is a genuine, honest to goodness virgin. Now, whether or not you have the patience to wait around until she's ready to let you play around her privates with your slinky is a whole other matter altogether. These kind of Vs have not played with any men or either masturbated before. They are pure in SPIRIT.
This group seem to going extinct like the Dinosaur. The world is shrinking thus exposing young kids early to the Web, TV and all other media types.

Extra Virgin(XV)
This group of Vs have had a couple of boyfriends but has never been prodded in any orifices, then she too can be considered a virgin, but with a twist. Perhaps a couple of guys have managed to caress her breasts and perhaps even given them a lick or two, but that's still pretty tame compared to today's world of bestiality and S&M.
She's done everything in the book with a man but hasn't been penetrated.

Experimental Virgin(EXV)
Now, onto the juicy part. There are those women that believe that if they perform oral sex on every boyfriend they've ever had, and let him get his fingers sticky every now and then, that they're still virgins.
Now they may bleed a bit the first time they have sex, but are they really virgins?
They have experience. I mean if she just lies there the first time you insert your member, but can play the flute on your instrument like she's written symphonies, has she really maintained her purity?
At what point do we draw the line? When has the line between purity and experience been crossed?
I personally don't think that a girl who can inhale a kielbasa like it's a toothpick necessarily connotes the virgin type.
If virginity lies in a hole and is not about experience, then our society has a very warped definition of what virginity really is.

Anal Incubator
Believe it or not, there are gals out there who will let you get into their anal canals, but will still aver that they are virgins. Carnal desires are natural, but anal sex, as well as oral sex (despite what Bill Clinton says), has the word "sex" attached to it because that's exactly what it is. And once you have sex, you are no longer a virgin. Case closed.
So these women are under the illusion that as long as their vaginas remain untouched by the almighty privates, they can still claim to be pure. Pure crud, that is. And if men seem to think that this is a viable argument, then they're just horny and have no qualms about taking the back way in

The Lying Virgin. . . . . . . . .  . . . . . . .The most common amongst Nigerians.
For some lucky women, the vagina shrinks back to its original size if they don't have sex for a while, and the next time they do engage in carnal activity, they bleed. Now does that make them virgins? I don't think so. But that's not what I'm referring to; I'm talking about the women who feel that they have to lie as though not being virgins somehow implies that they're not good women.
In today's world, finding a virgin is as common as seeing Britney Spears in a turtleneck. So why do some women insist on fibbing and saying they are when they're not? That'll probably remain a mystery considering there are a multitude of reasons available. It's funny because it seems that gentlemen(Nairaland Guys) are no longer searching for virgins, but rather nice girls who have their head screwed on straight and have a wild streak behind closed doors.

B-Bwoy!!!
you ripped this from the blood platelets to the skin. girls will never learn not to lie about being a virgin.
let me share my experience. i met a girl who claimed to be a virgin some years back. we got dating and everything was cool. in my mind, i believed she was a virgin until we fell on the bed and the babe was feeling jittery and sobbing. i asked what was wrong and she said she's got a confession.
she said she has been prodded just once before by an ex but she forced her to do it. yea, yea, i told her that was the 100th time i would hear such gist.
did what i had to do and drop her like a filthy rag. i didnt drop her because she has been violated before, i did because she was not honest about it.
its a mad world out there. believe me all girls are dodgy. Angry Angry Angry Angry

PTBNaija you brought up value judgement.

A girl who by lying places her value on what's between her legs, is as worse and as guilty as the guy who values her on her virginity.
Sure the generalization is guys prefer virgin girls, it's just that I don't see that as an excuse to lie about who you are.  Be upfront about your past, don't give a guy a reason to degrade, or as you put it "dehumanize" you.  You acknowledged that the presence or absence of virginity does not determine your personality, so as you can see the lies are unnecessary.

It's puzzling how many african nations are responsible for making young girls feel 70% of their self worth is stamped in their virginity.  Thinking men know  virginity has very little to do with a woman's value.

So do please, lying to impress a guy is not worth it.  Not even the back breaking white lies

cougar, nice sharing!  It's unfortunate younger girls often lack strong self-esteem.  Denying their existence to impress a guy who is in search of an honest response to his posed question.  Lies are a big turn off for me.

Exactly!
These girls themselves say guys have no rights to judge them based on their virginity, yet they'd be the very first ones to lie about what they are.

@ Jackal

I definitely agree with you. We have to define what a virgin is because these days there are varying degrees of virginity. Some people think that as long as you haven't had vaginal sex, then you are still a virgin. But in my opinion, oral, anal, and vaginal all have sex in the end. So having either one, even with the absence of the others makes you no longer one. But that's my opinionof course others will think otherwise.

But maybe the only way to address this would be to ask the guys out there that make virginity a requirement to those that they want to marry. When you say a virginthis girl is abstaining from what type of sex? Or is it all types?

@k0be

You're right. The girls that lie are just as badbut at the same time, they are only reflections of what the society is asking for.

Case in pointdifferent standard, but same idea. Take gay peoplein Nigeria it's against the law to be gay, or there is such a high stigma against it. Because of this, men that are gay pretend not to be, get married, have childrenand yet continue to sleep with men on the "downlow." But if society wasn't so harsh against it, these men wouldn't be getting married to women just to "save face."

Now think about it, if not being a virgin wasn't viewed so negatively (for females) don't you think they would come out and say it? The men need to change their thinking first if they want to see a change.

Don't reflect what society is asking for if you know it's too diminishing, reflect on what's right, reflect on you!  You have a head, your head is for reasoning, use it to paddle your own canoe.  You can't continue to feed a guy's ego and not expect him to judge you on it.  after God, value yourself first and foremost.

Okaynow seriously, don't be naive. How is the world run? How do you think leaders run countrieseverything that people do is motivated by what other people think. Even the way you think was shaped be the people around you, just like how I think is shaped by the people around me. So when some people think a certain way, and feel the need to lie about stuff, they did it because of what they've been exposed to. What they have been taught by the people around them. No, its not rightno doubt. But I blame the men more.
