personally, i think most stage actors are better than our home video actors. a serious case in point is the Femi Branch and Genevieve Nnaji debacle during Tyrone Terence's "Private Lies" at the Muson center last year i think. The audience had come with such high expectations of seeing their screen goddess shine on stage but unfortunately fer genny, she had to contend with a guru like Femi Branch. I read the newspaper reviews and it was nasty, of the four-man cast; Femi Branch, Genevieve Nnaji, Solomon Oguname (MTN's mama na boy) and Najite Dede, only genny gave a poor account of herself. but other screen icons like RMD, Stella damassus and even Kate Henshaw had conquered the stage, so what's genny's problem? or is it because all these people i just mentioned had stage acting backgrounds? somebody bail me out abeg!

Anyone that knows anything about acting will tell you that "stage" actors are always better seasoned and trained than "strictly screen" actors. Al Pacino said doing stage is like walking on a tight rope high in the air without a safety net, while doing movies is like walking on a line drawn on the floor. Which one do you think is more difficult?
Further more, great stage actors can, and usually do, very well in movies. While many, many screen actors, who have never done stage, don't do so well when they try stage. The camera, or director cannot hide a poor performance when you are doing stage.

True, thats why most screen actors scramble to get a spot on stage but even better if they headline the show. Their acting skills are put to the test.

Truly, stage actors know the rudiments of acting and put in more effort in their performance during the presentation of the production. Because once the because after the final dress rehearsals, there is no "TAKE 2!"
Screen actors are just for show, but there's something special about them too. They know how to act ordinary. When you get a stage actor for the first time on screen, I can tell. They are too shakespearian. They over-demonstrate and they over-poeticize their lines.
It usually is quite difficult and it takes time for them to realise that on screen, you can act and say things casually. Whoever watches the film and cannot make meaning out of your lack of demonstration of the message should "press rewind".
