just went through the us open website and Baghdatis lost the first set in his match.

Juan Carlos Ferrero is also down 2 sets in his first round match against fellow spainard Feliciano Lopez.

Two more russians progress to the next round - Zvonareva, Andreev.

Baghdatis has taken the third set.  He needs to win the remaning two sets though to move to the next round.

At Arthur Ashe is Henin taking on Goerges; she leads 3 - love first set.

Justin leads five to love in the first set of her match against Julia Goerges. Seems she would win this one easily. Baghdatis levelled at 2-2 in the fourth set.

shes like a machine when she gets her game. Any chance Serena and Justin meeting in the quarters again?

. . . it had to happen anyways, Baghdatis has crashed out. He blew away a 5-1 lead in the tiebreaker of the fourth set, only to lose it 8-6.

Henin has also progressed to the second round.

Roddick, Sharapova are safely through to the second round.  It took Sharapova 50 minutes to thrash Vinci 6-0, 6-1  while Roddick beat Gimelstob 7-6, 6-3, 6-3.


Nadal is playing today, just after Venus' second round match, which is scheduled for around 5pm (Naija time).
