I Am Asthmatic, please Help
« on: August 23, 2007, 02:55 PM »

Hi all,

Jst need ur advice. I am Asthmatic n my Doctors say i have a unique Asthma. Reason: While most people r triggered by Dust, Smoke, Cold etc, myn is trigerred by Heat. Most asthmatic patients, infact 99.9% of the patients hv wheezing sound in their chest when u listen to it but myn is absolutely silent.

The problem now is, only my Doctor knows my case and believes so. There r moments i hv an attack n doctors administer an entirely different treatment instead of the normal one. 4 that, i always move wt my inhaler so that the Doc can knw what the problem is. Most tyms the delay knocks me off completely n makes me unconscious.

Cn u proffer any advice on how to  handle my case better.

Thank u

Maybe you should carry your exact diagnoses in your purse at all times. So if that happens again, you just pull the card out and show it to the doctors treating you.

Sorry to hear that, Chilla. I'm also asthmatic, was worse as a kid, but now, my attacks are less frequent - about about 3 days in 2 years or there abouts.

Mine also seems to be triggered by heat, as opposed to dust, pollen or smoke. I have 3 different inhalers:

Regular blue one - for relief when an attack occurs
Brown one - for prevention, usually taken a few times daily
Purple one - as brown one, but slow release
Green one - a rapid relief one

I've never used the green one, I tend to use mostly the blue one, or the brown one a few times daily. I find a few puffs a day prevents the attacks from coming on. I take it during the summer, when it's really hot, and I'm more likely to suffer an attack.

I hope this helps, I'll also check the names, just incase the colour codes are different in Nigeria, though I doubt it.

@ Chilla: Did you check the different inhalers?

@ Siena
Av come across those inhalers as in the Blue one whc is the relievn one and also the preventive type. I guess i misused them then as a result of the constant usage n was stopped completely by my Doc, who diagnosed another called becotide, cld that be the purple u were tryn to say?

My attack is less frequent now that av really found out what my allergies are. But being in an environment with different attitude towards the ailment, i decided to seek 4 mre advice.

U said its occurence is very rare, what do u do when it attacks u by the way?

Ill really appreciate more responses from u.

Thnx alot.

Chilla, yes, that's the purple one.

If I forget to take my preventative inhaler, I find the blue relief one works really well. But, the trick is NOT to forget to take the preventative inhaler.

I'd also suggest you see a nutritionist - it's very possible you're allergic to something other than the usual. When I lived in Nigeria, I was not allowed to eat things like corn, or coconut products. The same went for fried products, especially fried in palm oil, and there was a marked improvement.

Cutting out things you're allergic to can actually halve the frequency of your attacks.

Yes Sienna, i actually noticed that i hv a kind of a congestion when i eat Beans, u cn imagine. I saw my doc n he said its quite possible but that i shldnt stop eatn the Beans. Guess what i did, i eat my Beans n take Franol immediately, or use the preventive inhaler first then eat my beans. Surprisingly am ok now, i eat Beans without any prevention.

But do u think that was a good advice thou am better of with it?

Chilla, I'd stop eating anything that makes your lungs feel congested.

There are a lot of great-tasting meals in Nigeria, it must be pretty easy to abstain from beans, surely?  Smiley

Grew up with athsma for many years, until I was healed divinely at a church service. Lost count of the number of franol, Ventolin tabs etc. I took while growing up.  Undecided

Chilla, avoid those things that cause the allergies which trigger off the athsma. Look for an alternative to the beans. Wear a lot of cotton clothes, so that your skin can breathe and avoid synthetic wear that tends to raise body temperature, trap heat or cause poor circulation of air. Avoid poorly ventilated places and refrain from physically tasking exercises.

Finally, try prayers. Wink It works a lot!

You should probably see more than 1 doctor to see if this your doctor's diagnosis corresponds with what othe Dr's are saying. They may have a better solution of what you should do.

Have you tried moving locations where it is less humid?

I had a similar case, but great news my asthma is soooo gone.  Humidity was also the main trigger of my attacks, I still can't use my heater in winter.

Ok, I have'nt had an attack in like forever (stopped 2-3 years ago), all I did was pray to GOD and I also did a lot of YOGA!  Yoga didnt only help my breathe but it helped me internally because I was always stressed!

Just try yoga and c what happens (sounds stupid but trust me I can't remember the last time I bought an inhaler).  Am almost the queen of cheap, so I do Yoga ahome.

Stay well ok.

Am also asthmatic, mine is very strange too, smoke does not give me an attack,it only makes me cough, insecticide makes me sneez all day, what gives me attack is stress and when my heart is heavy, i just  realise that i can't breath all of a sudden and my breathing becomes heavy and noisy then i become unconsious. The doctors never get to hear any wheezing sound in my chest, its alwas clear, some say its my mind. I believe God for healing because it embrasses me at office.
