I am just reading and learning I don't know what I need exactly, friends would be nice, if I have a question about something can I ask you? Cool

Language/ Patois/ Interpretation that stuff

Its very liberal and open here in the UK and I find myself puzzled by some topics but thats because I am learning  can you do private messaging to ask people stuff direct or does it all have to be on here? Embarrassed

I'm mother to three by the way, married and work for the government. I changed my name by deed poll from my English name to this one I loved it so much and know what it means I changed my entire name to a Yoruban name

I may visit Nigeria one day with a female friend of mine from there but Id be out of my depth if I came alone I think, I find Nigerian peope very friendly you have culture that is very different to mine ( I don't know if I even have a culture)and I'm learning as I'm keen to know more, I don't want to offend anyone, there is the prostrate greeting custom I don't l know if I could do that howe imoportant would that be if I came to visit there?
.
I read on here in the travel conversations there are bodies in the street fighting and corrupt government  can this not be sorted out? it seems a shame as genuinely I find the people from Nigeria here in England (and on here from what Ive read) to be god fearing honest with high moral values so how can this happen? My friend never mentioned this to me but I'm a bit alarmed, is this all true? Shocked Shocked

don't worry about the corrupt government and the fighting, it wont affect your visit. Just amke sure you don't go to maiduguri, onitsha or any of those states rioting. You can come to Lagos. Its more peaceful, though you have to be careful with the area boys. Wink
We Nigerians are known to experts in the suffering and smiling business. So you'll have fun when you come.
Also, since youre not Nigerian, it wont really be held against you if you don't do the postrating thingy. Just feel free and enjoy yourself when you get here. ciao

Thanks for that advice alheri
I do believe that when in Rome you should do what the Romans do but Id have a problem with that!
In this country men and women are equal in fact Id not even curtsey to the queen as to me ALL are equal
However if she curtsyed to me I would of course yet I somehow doubt she would LOL

Nigeria does sound like a nice friendly place!

Welcome to nairaland Yewande, your name just reminded me of a classmate of mine years back. Nigerians are friendly people especially to foreigners so feel free anytime you want to come here, don't mind those media reports they are exaggerated most times.
