African Proverbs
« on: August 27, 2007, 03:42 PM »

Proverb they say is the palm oil with which words are eaten!! African tradition is richly endowed with witty and interesting proverbs. I have decided to start this thread dedicated to proverbs. The proverbs could be in any language but of course the English translation should be given.

I am opening the floor with these proverbs……

The death that kills a man begins like an appetite

When your neighbour’s horse falls into a pit, you should not rejoice at it, for your own child may fall into it too.
"A village without elderly is like a well without water."
'Do not insult a crocodile while your feet are still in the water'.
The man who has bread to eat does not appreciate the severity of a famine.
