These days, many couples are opting not to have kids for various reasons; either they want to enjoy each other without the hassle of kids splitting their love ( you love our daughter more than you love me etc), or they just don't want kids. Google DINKY couples, What do you Nairalanders think? Is it necessary to have kids to have a successful marriage?

It is not necessary but hey! I guess that's where we're wired differently. Can't wait to start breeding them "Bolittles".

Kids are NOT an absolute neccessity in a relationship, as long as the decision to have, or not have them is a joint one.
However, a failing relationship / marriage will NOT be saved by having kids. It's just papering over the cracks.

In Africa, once u get married people start looking at d woman's stomy, ok may be not d same in d western world, but here, they want result & so if u r not forth coming its hell on earth. They don't want want to hear "its a decision made by u & ur hubby, talk more of its not forthcoming". They just want children, even if its ok by u or not. believe me they could end up messing up d marriage. And guess who d "people" are, ur own family members. Africans always want to see their children, even d widely reads. u'll be surprised that the professors & d intellectually tight people in ur family, will turn their backs when d time comes. I'lld love to see my Kids

having a child in a marriage is not a must, it is nice to have a fruit to continue the generation, however, it shuld not be a base of what tha marriage shuld succed, and that is why some homes in nija are messed up. Marriage is a Man + woman Home = Anything that the man and the woman owns Family = Man + woman + (kid(s))* * = if they have any. If they don't have any and they want to have by force, nothing wrong in adoption, we are in the 21st century for God's sake, men should love the wife regardless, for better for worse, means, even if she can't have a child

In Africa its different they don't want to know anything called 21st century, they only want to repeat what their fathers did.
Please tell them marriage is for better for worse
