He made some money from selling records but a lot of it came from video games, endorsements, films, selling water etc. So people buy into the franchize. He used his shootings as a gimmick in the beginning to spark interest and his songs were very catchy. I mean he had little kids singing the 'candy shop' as vulgar as it was and that's how he sells records at the end of the day it's all business to him.
