A friend wrote this,
Pope Paul speaking from the window facing St. Peter Square said: “above all, what we need are saints. Looking at the state the world finds itself in today, may I remind you that what nations need most today is sainthood. We need saints. We need saints above everything else. This is the greatest need of the present world”.
The words greatly remind one of those other words from The Way: “I’ll tell you a secret, an open secret: these world crises are crises of saints. God wants a handful of men ‘of his own’ in (every field) of human activity. Then … pax Christi in regno Christi – “ the peace of Christ in the kingdom of Christ”.
Men are very weak and we must be made to see with our own eyes how we should proceed, which direction we should go in, how we should march through life. We need saints who will go on ahead, showing us the way. They cannot stop, but press on for our sake, waking us up, exhorting and encouraging us to persevere, constantly offering us their help, lighting our path, and showing us what loving God really means. Otherwise all we will know will be our own selfish love.
We need living saints, rather than the great ones of past ages, enshrined now in their vaulted riches. We need saints who will go with us to work in the fields or on the highways, in buses or on the okada; men who are not phantoms capable of going miraculously on when the traffic light is at red, but who have to wait with us until the signal light turns green. We need men who follow the same skills and professions as we do, so we can see how they solve the problems with their children, domestic problems, professional problems … who have to wrestle with the same economic problems with the bills we have to face at the same time each month; men who can register their just grievances, claiming their rights, and who do so because their pay is too meager; men who have to wait their turn at the Confessional because they also need to repent of their bad temper, of their anger, their pride, their indolence, the strong temptations they don’t always succeed in overcoming, because they too are made of flesh and blood.
Yes, we need saints who live as they preach, who lead us by their example, who imitate the gospel’s way, doing first and then teaching. We need saints who are human and understanding, with the humanity and understanding acquired in the course of battling against their own weaknesses.
You are that saint. You can be that saint. We are called to be that saint.

Today's Saint
St. Adalbert of Prague (956-97)
Opposition to the Good News of Jesus did not discourage Adalbert, who is now remembered with great honor in the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary and Germany.
Born to a noble family in Bohemia, he received part of his education from St. Adalbert of Magdeburg. At the age of 27 he was chosen as bishop of Prague. Those who resisted his program of clerical reform forced him into exile eight years later.
In time the people of Prague requested his return as their bishop. Within a short time, however, he was exiled again after excommunicating those who violated the right of sanctuary by dragging a woman accused of adultery from a church and murdering her.
After a short ministry in Hungary, he went to preach the Good News to people living near the Baltic Sea. He and two companions were martyred by pagan priests in that region. Adalbert's body was immediately ransomed and buried in Gniezno cathedral (Poland). In the mid-11th century his body was moved to St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague.
Quote
“God our Father, you have honored the Church with the victorious witness of St. Adalbert, who died for his faith. As he imitated the suffering and death of the Lord, may we follow in his footsteps and come to eternal joy” (adapted from the Common of a Martyr in the Easter season).

I was deeply saddened by the hypocrisy of the moderator. I watch as Catholics and other Christians are bashed and insulted and no intervention from the Moderator. Infact I have seen muuuuslims post in a topic for Christians something that has absolutely nothing to do with the topic and she does nothing. I am not engaging in any discussions with muuuuslims because of that for fear of my posts being deleted. I wonder what the purpose of the forum is, if not for discussions. I understand it gets out of hand, but the intervention should be fair and not one sided. Yes, God is ever faithful @Lindiwe Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday dear Lindiwe, Happy Birthday to you. May the Lord bless you in all your endeavours. May he provide you with many more years to come. Long life and prosperity to you. May he grant you wisdom as you count the years. May your heart desires come true, according to his will. God bless you dear.

Today's Saint
St. George If Mary Magdalene was the victim of misunderstanding, George is the object of a vast amount of imagination. There is every reason to believe that he was a real martyr who suffered at Lydda in Palestine, probably before the time of Constantine. The Church adheres to his memory, but not to the legends surrounding his life.
That he was willing to pay the supreme price to follow Christ is what the Church believes. And it is enough. The story of George's slaying the dragon, rescuing the king's daughter and converting Libya is a twelfth-century Italian fable. George was a favorite patron saint of crusaders, as well as of Eastern soldiers in earlier times. He is a patron saint of England, Portugal, Germany, Aragon, Genoa and Venice.
Quote
"When we look at the lives of those who have faithfully followed Christ, we are inspired with a new reason for seeking the city which is to come" (Dogmatic Constitution on the Church, 50).

Today's Saint
St. Fidelis of Sigmaringen (1577-1622) If a poor man needed some clothing, Fidelis would often give the man the clothes right off his back. Complete generosity to others characterized this saint's life.
Born in 1577, Mark Rey (Fidelis was his religious name) became a lawyer who constantly upheld the causes of the poor and oppressed people. Nicknamed "the poor man's lawyer," Fidelis soon grew disgusted with the corruption and injustice he saw among his colleagues. He left his law career to become a priest, joining his brother George as a Franciscan friar of the Capuchin Order. His wealth was divided between needy seminarians and the poor.
As a follower of Francis, Fidelis continued his devotion to the weak and needy. Once, during a severe epidemic in a city where he was guardian of a friary, Fidelis cared for and cured many sick soldiers.
He was appointed head of a group of Capuchins sent to preach against the Calvinists and Zwinglians in Switzerland. Almost certain violence threatened. Those who observed the mission felt that success was more attributable to the prayer of Fidelis during the night than to his sermons and instructions.
He was accused of opposing the peasants' national aspirations for independence from Austria. While he was preaching at Seewis, to which he had gone against the advice of his friends, a gun was fired at him, but he escaped unharmed. A Protestant offered to shelter Fidelis, but he declined, saying his life was in God's hands. On the road back, he was set upon by a group of armed men and killed.
Quote
"Action on behalf of justice and participation in the transformation of the world fully appear to us as a constitutive dimension of the preaching of the Gospel, or, in other words, of the Church's mission for the redemption of the human race and its liberation from every oppressive situation" ("Justice in the World," Synod of Bishops, 1971).

tot i cld help with todays readn:
Thursday of the Fifth Week of Easter
Reading 1 Acts 15:7-21
After much debate had taken place, Peter got up and said to the Apostles and the presbyters, “My brothers, you are well aware that from early days God made his choice among you that through my mouth the Gentiles would hear the word of the Gospel and believe. And God, who knows the heart, bore witness by granting them the Holy Spirit just as he did us. He made no distinction between us and them, for by faith he purified their hearts. Why, then, are you now putting God to the test by placing on the shoulders of the disciples a yoke that neither our ancestors nor we have been able to bear? On the contrary, we believe that we are saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus, in the same way as they.” The whole assembly fell silent, and they listened while Paul and Barnabas described the signs and wonders God had worked among the Gentiles through them.
After they had fallen silent, James responded, “My brothers, listen to me. Symeon has described how God first concerned himself with acquiring from among the Gentiles a people for his name. The words of the prophets agree with this, as is written:
After this I shall return and rebuild the fallen hut of David; from its ruins I shall rebuild it and raise it up again, so that the rest of humanity may seek out the Lord, even all the Gentiles on whom my name is invoked. Thus says the Lord who accomplishes these things, known from of old.
It is my judgment, therefore, that we ought to stop troubling the Gentiles who turn to God, but tell them by letter to avoid pollution from idols, unlawful marriage, the meat of strangled animals, and blood. For Moses, for generations now, has had those who proclaim him in every town, as he has been read in the synagogues every sabbath.”
The Apostles and the presbyters met together to see about this matter.
Responsorial Psalm 96:1-2a, 2b-3, 10 R. (3) Proclaim God’s marvelous deeds to all the nations. or: R. Alleluia. Sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all you lands. Sing to the LORD; bless his name. R. Proclaim God’s marvelous deeds to all the nations. or: R. Alleluia. Announce his salvation, day after day. Tell his glory among the nations; among all peoples, his wondrous deeds. R. Proclaim God’s marvelous deeds to all the nations. or: R. Alleluia. Say among the nations: The LORD is king. He has made the world firm, not to be moved; he governs the peoples with equity. R. Proclaim God’s marvelous deeds to all the nations. or: R. Alleluia.
Gospel Jn 15:9-11
Jesus said to his disciples: “As the Father loves me, so I also love you. Remain in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and remain in his love.
“I have told you this so that my joy might be in you and your joy might be complete.”
