As for my mum’s health – just as I said earlier. Everything is left to God.  You may be surprised to hear that she is still seriously sick.  It got to a point where she could not speak what we could hear, but we thank God that few days ago she started answering our calls on phone – gradually.  The Doctors even instructed that her condition only need prayer. To us her children, it’s all fear and fear once our phones rings.  Catholic Priests, societies and other denominations have been visiting and saying their prayers.  From one hospital to the other until it was revealed that my mother is under attack and the 2 men who are hell bent to see her dead have been revealed.   Reasons why they want her dead:  She is bold to tell you your fault face to face - she can't be intimidated and for that reason she is applauded in my home town once she travels home.  Only few people are allowed to visit her now.

Just imagine the wickedness of men.  Nothing will happen to her, since the evil ones has been exposed because the word of God said "No weapon fashioned against her shall prosper"  "She will not die but, will live and testify the goodness of God"

Ebos you see why we should be prayerful at all time because the enemy is never asleep 24hrs he is always on duty, so we must not sit and fold our hands and leave the stupid fool to be destroying our homes, when our Saviour has told us to prayer without ceasing, because he knows what the stupid fool is capable of doing to his children.
Ebos try and pick up your Rosary again and start, we don't hv to give the enemy any chance at all.  Try and be using psalm 91 in your prayers also.  God the deliverer will deliver her.

Readings for
Wednesday, 11st June, 2008

FIRST READING:                                    Acts11:21-26. 13:1-3

A great number believed and were converted to the Lord.

The church in Jerusalem heard about this and they sent Barnabas to Antioch.There he could see for himself that God had given grace, and this pleased him, and he urged them all to remain faithful to the Lord with heartfelt devotion;
for he was a good man, filled with the Holy Spirit and with faith. And a large number of people were won over to the Lord.

Barnabas then left for Tarsus to look for Saul, and when he found him he brought him to Antioch. As things turned out they were to live together in that church a whole year, instructing a large number of people. It was at Antioch that the disciples were first called 'Christians'.

In the church at Antioch the following were prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen, who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. One day while they were offering worship to the Lord and keeping a fast, the Holy Spirit said, 'I want Barnabas and Saul set apart for the work to which I have called them'. So it was that after fasting and prayer they laid their hands on them and sent them off.

Responsorial Psalm:                         Ps 97
Response                                             The Lord has shown his salvation to the nations.

1. Sing a new song to the Lord
    for he has worked wonders.
His right hand and his holy arm
    have brought salvation.                                              Response

2. The Lord has made known his salvation;
has shown his justice to the nations.
He has remembered his truth and love
for the house of Israel.                                               Response

3. All the ends of the earth have seen
the salvation of our God. .'
Shout to the Lord all the earth,
    ring out your joy.                                                         Response

4.  Sing psalms to the Lord with the harp,
    with the sound of music.
With trumpets and the sound of the horn
acclaim the King, the Lord.                                     Response

GOSPEL:                                            Matthew 10:7-13

Jesus said to his disciples: And as you go, proclaim that the kingdom of heaven is close at hand. Cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out devils. You received without charge, give without charge. Provide yourselves with no gold or silver, not even with a few coppers for your purses, with no haversack for the journey or spare tunic or footwear or a staff, for the workman deserves his keep.

'Whatever town or village you go into, ask for someone trustworthy and stay with him until you leave. As you enter his house, salute it, and if the house deserves it, let your peace descend upon it; if it does not, let your peace come back to you.

St. Barnabas

Barnabas, a Jew of Cyprus, comes as close as anyone outside the Twelve to being a full-fledged apostle. He was closely associated with St. Paul (he introduced Paul to Peter and the other apostles) and served as a kind of mediator between the former persecutor and the still suspicious Jewish Christians.
When a Christian community developed at Antioch, Barnabas was sent as the official representative of the Church of Jerusalem to incorporate them into the fold. He and Paul instructed in Antioch for a year, after which they took relief contributions to Jerusalem.

Later, Paul and Barnabas, now clearly seen as charismatic leaders, were sent by Antioch officials to preach to the Gentiles. Enormous success crowned their efforts. After a miracle at Lystra, the people wanted to offer sacrifice to them as gods—Barnabas being Zeus, and Paul, Hermes—but the two said, “We are of the same nature as you, human beings. We proclaim to you good news that you should turn from these idols to the living God” (see Acts 14:8-18).

But all was not peaceful. They were expelled from one town, they had to go to Jerusalem to clear up the ever-recurring controversy about circumcision and even the best of friends can have differences. When Paul wanted to revisit the places they had evangelized, Barnabas wanted to take along John Mark, his cousin, author of the Gospel, but Paul insisted that, since Mark had deserted them once, he was not fit to take along now. The disagreement that followed was so sharp that Barnabas and Paul separated, Barnabas taking Mark to Cyprus, Paul taking Silas to Syria. Later, they were reconciled—Paul, Barnabas and Mark.

When Paul stood up to Peter for not eating with Gentiles for fear of his Jewish friends, we learn that “even Barnabas was carried away by their hypocrisy” (see Galatians 2:1-13).

Comment:

Barnabas is spoken of simply as one who dedicated his life to the Lord. He was a man "filled with the Holy Spirit and faith. Thereby large numbers were added to the Lord." Even when he and Paul were expelled from Antioch in Pisidia, they were "filled with joy and the Holy Spirit."

Like Barnabas and the others, we too can be zealous workers for God's kingdom.  In the power of the Holy Spirit, we can be evangelizers, bringing the good news of the saving death and resurrection of Jesus to an unbelieving world.

"Father , through your Holy Spirit, give me a burning desire to make your Son, Jesus Christ, known and loved by everyone I meet.  May all that i do and say witness to the power of your infinite love and merciful compassion in my life."

Catholics Speak Today
We are called to be contemplatives in the heart of the world by seeking the face of God in everything, everyone, everywhere, all the time, and his hand in every happening.  BLESSED TERESA OF CALCUTTA

Saint of the Day

St. Anthony of Padua (1195-1231)

The gospel call to leave everything and follow Christ was the rule of Anthony’s life. Over and over again God called him to something new in his plan. Every time Anthony responded with renewed zeal and self-sacrificing to serve his Lord Jesus more completely. His journey as the servant of God began as a very young man when he decided to join the Augustinians, giving up a future of wealth and power to be a servant of God. Later, when the bodies of the first Franciscan martyrs went through the Portuguese city where he was stationed, he was again filled with an intense longing to be one of those closest to Jesus himself: those who die for the Good News.

So Anthony entered the Franciscan Order and set out to preach to the Moors. But an illness prevented him from achieving that goal. He went to Italy and was stationed in a small hermitage where he spent most of his time praying, reading the Scriptures and doing menial tasks.

The call of God came again at an ordination where no one was prepared to speak. The humble and obedient Anthony hesitantly accepted the task. The years of searching for Jesus in prayer, of reading sacred Scripture and of serving him in poverty, chastity and obedience had prepared Anthony to allow the Spirit to use his talents. Anthony’s sermon was astounding to those who expected an unprepared speech and knew not the Spirit’s power to give people words.

Recognized as a great man of prayer and a great Scripture and theology scholar, Anthony became the first friar to teach theology to the other friars. Soon he was called from that post to preach to the heretics, to use his profound knowledge of Scripture and theology to convert and reassure those who had been misled.

Quote

In his Sermons, Anthony says: "The saints are like the stars. In his providence Christ conceals them in a hidden place that they may not shine before others when they might wish to do so. Yet they are always ready to exchange the quiet of contemplation for the works of mercy as soon as they perceive in their heart the invitation of Christ."

As we continue to draw closer to God in prayer, let's all bear in mind that the good God looks neither at long nor beautiful prayers, but at those that come from the bottom of the heart!

In the very words of Saint John Vianney, the cure of Ars: " to be loved by God, to be united with God, to live in the presence of God, to live for God. oh! what a beautiful life and what a beautiful death!"

wishing y'all God's divine mercy and love!  Wink Wink Wink

Hello people, how are you? I know I haven't been contributing as mush here, I do apologise. I am busy with classes and work and when I come here, i spend most of my time showing those who do not believe in Christ and who want to label the Bible as false that they truly have no idea what is in the Bible.  I hope you guys visit that thread (Gospel of Barnabas) and see what's going on.

I love you all.

May the Peace of Christ be with you all now and forever. Amen.

I am proud to be a Catholic and would remain one till I die. Let all who abhor catholicism continue to be deceived by Gideon's bible carrying pastors. Uneployment brought most of them to the altar and not the call. We go hear 'when' when their founders start to die and succession batles start to rock these business empires. READING AND GOSPEL FOR TODAY

FIRST READING:              1Kings 21: 1-16

Naboth of Jezreel had a vineyard close by the palace of Ahab king of Samaria, and Ahab said to Naboth, 'Give me your vineyard to be my vegetable garden, since it adjoins my house; I will give you a better vineyard for it or, if you prefer, I will give you its worth in money'. But Naboth answered Ahab, 'Yahweh forbid that I should give you the inheritance of my ancestors!

Ahab went home gloomy and out of temper at the words of Naboth of Jezreel, 'I will not give you the inheritance of my fathers'. He lay down on his bed and turned his face away and refused to eat. His wife Jezebel came to him. 'Why are you so dispirited' she said 'that you will not eat?' He said, 'I have been speaking to Naboth of Jezreel; I said: Give me your vineyard either for money or, if you prefer, for another vineyard in exchange. But he said, "I will not give you my vineyard".' Then his wife Jezebel said, 'You make a fine king of Israel, and no mistake! Get up and eat; cheer up, and you will feel better; I will get you the vineyard of Naboth of Jezreel myself.

So she wrote letters in Ahab's name and sealed them with his seal, sending them to the elders and nobles who lived where Naboth lived. In the letters she wrote, 'Proclaim a fast, and put Naboth in the forefront of the people. Confront him with a couple of scoundrels who will accuse him like this, "You have cursed God and the king" Then take him outside and stone him to death.'

The men of Naboth's town, the elders and nobles who lived in his town, did what Jezebel ordered, what was written in the letters she had sent them. They proclaimed a fast and put Naboth in the forefront of the people. Then the two scoundrels came and stood in front of him and made their accusation, 'Naboth has cursed God and the king'. They led him outside the town and stoned him to death. They then sent word to Jezebel, 'Naboth has been stoned to death'. When Jezebel heard that Naboth had been stoned to death, she said to Ahab, 'Get up! Take possession of the vineyard which Naboth of Jezreel would not give you for money, for Naboth is no longer alive, he is dead.' When Ahab heard that Naboth was dead, he got up to go down to the vineyard of Naboth of Jezreel and take possession of it.

Responsorial Psalm:      Ps 5
Response:                        Give heed to my groaning, O Lord.

I. To my words give ear, O Lord,
    give heed to my groaning.
Attend to the sound of my cries,
my King and my God.                       Response

2. You are no God who loves evil;
    no sinner is your guest.
The boastful shall not stand their ground
    before your face.                               Response

3. You hate all who do evil:
    you destroy all who lie.
    The deceitful and bloodthirsty man
    the Lord detests                             Response

GOSPEL:                Matthew 5: 38-42

Jesus said to his disciples: 'You have learnt how it was said: Eye for eye and tooth for tooth But I say this to you: offer the wicked man no resistance. On the contrary, if anyone hits you on the right cheek, offer him the other as well; if a man takes you to law and would have your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. And if anyone orders you to go one mile, go two miles with him. Give to anyone who asks, and if anyone wants to borrow, do not turn away.

SAINT OF THE DAY'

June 16, 2008

St. John Francis Regis

(1597-1640)

Born into a family of some wealth, John Francis was so impressed by his Jesuit educators that he himself wished to enter the Society of Jesus. He did so at age 18. Despite his rigorous academic schedule he spent many hours in chapel, often to the dismay of fellow seminarians who were concerned about his health. Following his ordination to the priesthood, he undertook missionary work in various French towns. While the formal sermons of the day tended toward the poetic, his discourses were plain. But they revealed the fervor within him and attracted people of all classes. Father Regis especially made himself available to the poor. Many mornings were spent in the confessional or at the altar celebrating Mass; afternoons were reserved for visits to prisons and hospitals.
The Bishop of Viviers, observing the success of Father Regis in communicating with people, sought to draw on his many gifts, especially needed during the prolonged civil and religious strife then rampant throughout France. With many prelates absent and priests negligent, the people had been deprived of the sacraments for 20 years or more. Various forms of Protestantism were thriving in some cases while a general indifference toward religion was evident in other instances. For three years Father Regis traveled throughout the diocese, conducting missions in advance of a visit by the bishop. He succeeded in converting many people and in bringing many others back to religious observances.

Though Father Regis longed to work as a missionary among the North American Indians in Canada, he was to live out his days working for the Lord in the wildest and most desolate part of his native France. There he encountered rigorous winters, snowdrifts and other deprivations. Meanwhile, he continued preaching missions and earned a reputation as a saint. One man, entering the town of Saint-Andé, came upon a large crowd in front of a church and was told that people were waiting for "the saint" who was coming to preach a mission.

The last four years of his life were spent preaching and in organizing social services, especially for prisoners, the sick and the poor. In the autumn of 1640, Father Regis sensed that his days were coming to a conclusion. He settled some of his affairs and prepared for the end by continuing to do what he did so well: speaking to the people about the God who loved them. On December 31, he spent most of the day with his eyes on the crucifix. That evening, he died. His final words were: "Into thy hands I commend my spirit."

He was canonized in 1737.

Comment:

John longed to travel to the New World and become a missionary to the Native Americans, but he was called instead to work among his own compatriots. Unlike many famous preachers, he isn’t remembered for golden-tongued oratory. What people who listened to him heard was his own fervent faith, and it had a powerful effect on them. We can recall homilists who impressed us for the same reason. More importantly for us, we can also remember ordinary people, neighbors and friends, whose faith and goodness touched us and brought us to deeper faith. That is the calling most of us must follow.

My ggodness, the extent to which men go to make others suffer does not amaze me as I too have gone through that. But I can tell you ebos, Our God is almighty and all powerful, continue to call on his name and your mum will be delivered. I will pray for your mum, all the angels of the Lord will be at the doorsteps of those who plan evil against us. Mumsy will testify and praise the Lord.

Pam and Carl are fighting? I have been gone a while

Amen.
