Yeah? Pray tell, what "perilous fate" awaits any errant HP laptop buyer who fails to heed your terse warning?.
if i was warned like this i will be happy, presently we are taking them to court on issue relating to dv6000 and dv9000 series, they just drop dead for no apparent reasons, i got two (new) with motherboard problems so does thousands of hp laptop owners, if you don't believe me go to their website (forum) and see for yourself. there are so many other makes that you mention that are far better than this hp crap from china. since then it is apple macbook pro for me amigo.

Well, prior to now, I havent seen or heard any evidence of the "thousands" of HP laptop owners who are having these problems. if you can substantiate on your subtle innuendo about the general poor quality of China manufactured HP laptops I will certainly take it seriously. I can tell you one thing though. The Apple products are manufactured (to apples specified standard) in none other than China. see for your self here :- http://www.plex86.org/apple/Apples-Probes-China-Factory-Conditions.htmlAs you can imagine, most (if not all) of the big name manufactures either have their factories in China(google that) or subcontract to chinese manufacturers. See an extract below :- " Apple Computer Inc. is investigating claims of poor working conditions at a Chinese iPod factory, the company said Friday, vowing not to tolerate any labor violations." " Foxconn is the trade name for Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., which claims many big-name customers including Intel Corp., Dell Inc. and Sony Corp." So the issue is not where the product is manufactured but to what standard it was made. peace, Brume

i hear you big man, u see here in the uk or other part of the world items like this have warranties but for a company like hp to look away when problem arise is the worst ever talkless or buying it in nigeria - trust me i said the laptops are under warranty still they don't want own up.
at least you said apple is doing investigation , what is hp doing , most of all computer (90 percent) comes from that region whatever sticker or label they have on. good example is hasse google them they make them all.

Oga sir,
Well if you are in the UK/Europe, then it should be a no-brainer and you are well within your rights to sue them if they are not making good on the warranty for a HP product failing within the warranty period. Here in North America you can certainly sue the pants off of them. My point though is that one bad apple doesnt spoil the whole bunch. Granted, a few units turned up duds or lemons, that doent make them all bad.
I am not here to defend HP, but of course I expect them to act responsibly and investigate factory issues when they arise like apple is doing. They all have a "good" reputation to protect after all.
Just curios. Did you buy the laptops from a HP authorised reseller in the UK?. Why are they refusing to honour the warranty?. What are the details in this particular case?. Holler back.

Brume

hi man, you think i am just talking rubbish here, but let us wait and see, it is just too bad i am trying to save people some headache, #cause the problem is the motherboard it doesn't send power to device attached tot it i.e wireless card, hdd yes hard drive, dvd drive, screen (blank screen) even if the laptop is working - verify this by pluggin ext screen, fan for cooling, i have seen people with one or two even all this problems.
please google"hp dv6000 won't start" - you will be suprise to how many
where do you think i bought it from fruit seller - they know the problem and the cost - a new motherboard is not cheap you know and it is all about profit for hp.

Dude!,
All I asked was where you bought it from. And no I don't think you are talking rubbish, just asking that you support your "buyer beware" assertion with cold hard facts and more information. Frankly I am giving you the benefit of the doubt and I thought that was obvious from my last post. What I think does not really matter at this point anyhow. This is a public forum after all and your or my opinion does not hold sway over anyone elses decision. Most rational people are capable of evaluating available information and making sound judgement on that basis. The best contribution you and I can make is to be forthcoming with proper and correct information.
Since you brought up the subject and have a burden to help other wary buyers, the onus lies on you to provide as much information in sufficient detail to make clear the situation by sharing your personal experience.

One of the dv2500ts was sold yesterday. There are 6 hps on the way - one of them should arrive Dec 7th. I anticipate the others arriving a week later. I will update this thread with current arrival information as soon as I receive it.

After looking further into Rickis earlier post I found additional pertinent facts I thought warranted some elaboration. As Ricki earlier stated there are some HP models ( not all hps) with certain issues. And within those identified models some serial numbers have been highlighted. The specific symptoms identified are :- * The notebook does not detect wireless networks and the wireless adapter is not detected in the Device Manager. NOTE: If the notebook PC starts normally please verify that your system BIOS is version F.3a or greater before contacting support for this issue. For instructions on determining the current version of the BIOS installed and how to obtain the latest version see the "Update the BIOS to version F.3a or later" section of this document. * The notebook has no power and no active LEDs. * The notebook does not start. * The battery charge indicator light does not turn on when the battery is installed and the AC adapter is connected. * The notebook issues a single beep during boot indicating no power. * There is no video on the computer LCD panel or external monitor. * The external monitor functions but there is no image on the notebook LCD panel. Here is what HP is doing about the dv6000 and dv9000 series that were identified as having those issues:- http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericDocument?docname=c01087277&dlc=en&lc=en&cc=usBasically, If you own a HP dv 6000 (model number between ddv60xx and dv63xx) or dv 9000 (model number between dv90xx and dv93xx), or Compaq presario (model numbers between V60xx and V63xx) then you need to check the serial number of your laptop to determine if it has been flagged as likely to have the issues HP has identified. For easy reference here is the range of possibly affected serial numbers :- | dv9000 | dv6000, V6000 | | xxx630xxxx - xxx728xxxx | xxx625xxxx - xxx726xxxx |
HP will repair your laptop FREE if it meets the above criteria. peace, Brume

Dis Guy, I searched again and found that most stores either list the item as a discontinued product or indicate that it is simply out of stock. Here is another store in the UK that can get it for you on back order :- http://www.valuemedia.co.uk/popprods.htm?Product=TY-FB8SCThey actually *don't* have it in stock. I chatted with them and was told even the supplier does not have it. The supplier was quoting delivery for the 20th. i.e. You can probably back-order it. They however cannot guarantee a precise delivery date on account of how busy it is this time of year, Hope this helps, Regards, Brume PS: Here are some pertinent details from a livechat with a customer service rep. Brume: Do you have TY42TM6TB 21pin Scart Pin RGB Board Scart 21 pin board in stock? Call accepted by operator Rob. Currently in room: Rob, Brume. Rob: HI, sorry no, nor does supplier, they are quoting 20th. Brume: But if I order it on back order you can provide it by the 20th? Brume: Are you there? Rob: Hi sorry couldn't guarantee that at this time of year. Brume: Ok Brume: But you can back order it anyhow for delivery when time permits? Rob: Yes, of course Rob: You could get it on 21st but I can't promise. Brume: What does the total come to including taxes? Brume: Yeah? Thats fine. As long as I eventually get it - in reasonable timing Rob: Just a mo will need to put it through the site. Rob: Will do £120 which will include next day delivery Brume: K great. Thanks, I will get back with you on that. I am in the US and the item is required in the UK. I will pass this information over to the ultimate purchaser for action. Rob: Your up early ? Brume: You betcha Rob: Where are you ? Rob: In the ice storms ,

There was a minor error in the model number of 2 of the units (item #7). The model number should have read dv6607nr and not dv6407nr. I have made the proper correction to the inventory post and also updated general status information in that post.

Hi All, My partner has asked me to place a reservation lock on the Toshiba. I have updated the inventory post ( http://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-75892.32.html#msg1669197) to reflect that. Apparently there is someone (not a nairaland member) interested in it - but no deal has been sealed as yet. That deal will probably close at the non-discounted price if at all. There are a couple nairalanders who have enquired about the Toshiba. If any one has a specific interest and is ready to pay cash (at my nairaland advertised discounted price) for it, please let me know. thanks, Brume
