@buluti, He pleaded guilty under duress. This happens everywhere everytime. Nothing new.
@Laudate, My dear friend, that's the way I see this matter o. OBJ is a very crude and ruthless man. I know how far he can go to have his way with anything. In anycase I believe he was the lynchpin of all of Alams' travails as a governor in Bayelsa.
This hype about him stealing us blind does not sway me in anyway. I'm not a fan of Alams, anyway, it's just that I like asking myself questions when I'm fed with some bogus information. And when I wear my objectivity cloak and look at issues critically, what I come up with does not often please many people. But I've made my point anyway.

Lets paint two scenarios as per Goodluck:
1) Goodluck goes to Yenagoa to ''rejoice'' with Alams:
2) Goodluck stays away from Yenagoa to save the image of Nigeria's VP.
Scenario 1.
The whole world will hear about it. Nigerians will call for Goodluck's impeachment. They forget that Goodluck was largely instrumental to Alams's release.
Scenario 2
He did not attend. Alams did not bother. He's back at Amassoma. What does it matter if Goodluck stays away. He's at home and at peace.
What do you think Goodluck will do, as a sensible man?

Every society definately gets the type of leaders it deserves, its not the leaders that are our problem in nigeria its US, there is something definately wrong with we nigerians . I have observed nigerians and people of other nationalities and i have concluded that there is something definately wrong with most if not all of us(nigerians), when you say that nigerians are under some kind of course or spell some people will start screaming and berating you for making such a statement. Its only in a place like nigeria that such things can happen. how on earth can a convicted and self confessed criminal be given a hero's welcome, i was shocked when i saw it on AIT. Tens of thousands of people all out to honour a thief? ohhhhh wahala dey ohhhh. All i have to say is that its not just the leaders its we the people that are the problem, poverty is the root of all evil on earth, we are so poor that we will sell our souls for a plate of food.

I don't know what this noise is all about o.
Is it today we have been like this or what?
How many political dispensations have we had in our country? How many of those people in power have served us well? How many even come back to tell us they still want to remain in power? How many did we reject?
When these rogues came to power in 1999 how many of them performed to the level of our expectations? Why did we not reject them in 2003 when they took power again?
So why should Alam's welcome now open our eyes to the fact that we have problems as a Nation?
Please let us not waste our energy on all these jare. No be today we don be like this.

@ ono, how do you know he pleaded guilty under duress, did he tell you that, with the kind of lawyers he had how could that have happened. The man made a plea bargain you are calling it "duress".
@ benit good you do vist Bayelsa and the people like Alams admin more than the VP's admin. But my question is simple were funds utilised properly during the tenure of any of them, this mentality of "small vis-a-vis big thief" is so dangerous to our well being, that people make such comparisons is so very annoying. What you should do is educate them that they should demand accountability, any one that doesnt utilise funds appropriately should be an outcast irrespective of who he currently is. They should ask questions how much does the state govt get monthly what has it been used for? if possible the accounts should be available to the public afterall its public funds.
@ beetintin so because we have been like that, we should continue to remain like that, such wisdom.

It might sound harsh and negative, but its not a stretch to say that Nigeria is a hopeless country that will continue to remain the embarrassment of Africa. The mind of most of its citizens both rich and poor are not right at all.
I read somewhere that former VP Atiku will soon be returning from "only God knows where" and that his party will be organizing thousands of supporters or fans to welcome him. I wonder what it is they will be celebrating, his exemplarly leadership abroad or or his long vacation? Go figure!

On behalf of all normal, sane and good citizens of nigeria both home and abroad , I will like to say that all bayelsans that gave "the bastard" (alameisha) a so-called "overwhelming welcome" are stupid , insane and just dissapointing.Imagine, How dare they? Its a slap on the face of nigerian judiciary,
An overwhelming welcome for a thief.Nigeria and its people(those that are home of course) are underveloped and swimming in poverty. I guess we all know where the problem is coming from, The People !!!1!!!!!!, Nigerians need mental exam,
Who were the so-called dinigrities , u mean fellow thieves.? This is a disgrace, Nigerians back home , esp those bayelsans that gave the ex-governor an overwhelming welcome are just dispeakable, guess they got paid, because i can't imagine a normal human being welcoming an ex-covict that is aiding and creating "the wasted generation"

@MP007 It is better you save yourself all these big grammar, they don't solve anything. May be you should direct all your anger towards everybody here. How many of these politricians served us well? How many of them were people willing to die for to return to power? There is something fundamentally wrong with us all and until we find out what is actually wrong with us, we may continue like this. There are thousands of instances where villains are welcomed home with so much pomp and pageantry that you wonder whether we have senses at all. @buluti, I never said it should continue. Most Nigerians are hypocrites, when it concerns your man, you turn a blind eye but when it is the other person, you make so much noise about it. Alam's case is not in anyway different from so many people that are being handed chieftancy titles. They are made to look like heroes when they should be treated otherwise. What do you make of that? As we have selective justice so also do we have selective cries, as so many people are doing here. You all can come here and make all the noise but I just want us to search within ourselves if we are not guilty of all we are criticising the Bayelsans for.

The level of ignorance and stupidity displayed here by some people and replicated by many Nigerians is the sort of thing that made me decide years ago that there is very little hope for this country. There are occasional signs of progress but in the most part our country is covered in and over shadowed by darkness bred by ignorance ,ethnic bigotry and wicked minded ,greedy and non productive elite. Because of this I checked out and my only concern are my immediate family who I am struggling to set free from this madness

if i were in any position, in this current administration, where i can give this Alarm guy life imprisonment and every person that went to welcome him ten years imprisonment each, i would hand out jail terms for all of them. maybe their time in solitary confinement would clear their mind and enable them think in the right direction. how can people be portraying such stupidity? it is unbelievable ! we really need serious solutions to our problems in Nigeria.

I believe that what happend to him is a planned work from the presidency, (Yestarday Guardian news paper 5th sept 2007, "Alams indict obasanjo") There is joy in heaven over one sinner that repented. Reading Through opinions expressed on this topic truly reflect why Nigeria is where it is today; when a convicted criminal and self profess criminal receives a hero welcome. Let argue constructively here 1. Alams is not the only person against OBJ's third term; Tinubu also a gov was against It and am not saying tinubu is clean but he was not arrested in london for money laundering except the likes of @ Ono & co want us to say that OBJ instructed the metropolitan police from Aso Rock.
2. Alams has admitted to his wrong doing and has served his term as instructed by the law (even though some might find he's sentence too lenient) this should have been the end of story but No. If he was a sensible man and has any respect for his people, and the nation and judiciary he would have refused to be part of the celebration or kicked against the welcome because what is wrong is wrong, the welcome party is a slap in the face for every Nigerian and surprised that the press and other imminent Nigerians have not come out in the national diallies to openly criticize and disown those who were behind the shameful and utterly despicable Act .
3. For those who argue that He did alot for bayelsa or better than other bayelsa govts; well i would like want to argue that because it not worth it; but my stand is that the day he started looting bayelsa he rubbished and undid whatever purported goodworks people say he did.
We need to set an example to the coming generation and we cannot be taken seriously in the comity of nations if such shameful acts are allowed to continue imagine what the British govts and the london mets will be thinking about Nigeria- and one wonders why we are seen as a nations of corrupt people.
Also I think the Nigerian judiciary has become too lenient and political this days- take the case of a popular Nigerian actress arrested a while ago with cocaine was fine N1M or six moth in prison whilst at the same time a 19yrs old Nigerian boy was executed in Asia for similar offence. Have anyone noticed the increase in drug trafficking cases since the said issue.

Alma's should be hanged and all the people who attended the reception should be given 10 years in solitary confirment, even if he will come back to town he should have done that under the cover of the dark. He even as the audcity to say he will serve nigeria forever.well, thank you ole. If everybody is as corrupt as him there will be nothing left , he thinks he can still warm himself into the hearts of the nigerdelta people. Nigerdelta people, don't be deceived .This is one of the people that should he held accountable for all the underdevelopment in the region.
