Big Joe, I think the onus of updating the FAQs on the first post now fall on you. Like the above analysis you did concerning C-Band and KU-Band, you can add it to the FAQs, download the existing one, add the necessary ones, remove the former one and attach the new file again.  The Admin could only add the FAQ I prepare to your post, instead of placing it in a more conspicuous place like a link on the Thread topic at the top of each page.
Furthermore, I will also suggest that the Thread topic should include that i.e Free to Air Satellite TV (Please read FAQs first on first post if you are new here).  The Admin can assist in changing the thread title for us.  By this way, newbie can become more use to what FTA means before joining the forum.

@captainus

Sorry, i missed that.

I had a motorized setup in the past. it gave lots of issues especially during rainfalls or strong wind. The dish always move and the channels are lost automatically. So I rarely look forward to such times because I had to re-align the dish back to its position to get the signals. I use a stationary dish (ground mount) now.

You can track more than one satellite with a stationary dish depending on the position of your LNBs because the satellites are located at different angles (degrees) in the sky.  (see the diagram)

@all
For more on how the satellites are located in the sky, download this free software . hxxp://members.chello.nl/~berry.walda/GorbTrack.zip    Unzip it and install.  Also, download the location file for your country  at hxxp://earth-info.nima.mil/gns/html/cntry_files.html  (if you are in Nigeria, simply download the location file for Nigeria here hxxp://earth-info.nima.mil/gns/html/cntyfile/ni.zip).  You will need to extract the zip file into "C:\Program Files\GorbTrack\Countries" on your PC or laptop and then run Gorbtrack,  choose your country and location in the "Location" Tab. (as always, change hxxp to http)

Sat Info - will give you possible satelliteS in your country.  Clark Belt, Ground Map, HA Map etc will all show you satellite positions.  It is a great tool.

@ all,

it's so good to be back here after an unscheduled breakdown of my biological system, and its very suprising to have seen the number of pages that have been added since the last time i visited.
I can see more details have been added here and i can say am so proud of everyone here who had contributed in one way or the other.

@ biggjoe,
on theprevious page i read u saying something about ku and c-band has to do with the size of the dish, thats absolutely wrong,let me give u an instance based on what u said, if one is using a 2.4 to get nilesat here u will say one is on c-band, but those in the middle-east using 90cm to receive the same satellite u will say they're on ku-band.
The bands depend on the operational frequency. simple, even if u are using a 6m dish for nile its still ku-band, if u are in a location where u can receive c-band freqs on yur 90cm dish which is very possible, thats simply c-band, not the dish

@ enigma,tox9ja,justx24,vickoy24,ejike,OLA

am glad to tell you guys that am back now. I've just added another setup Intelsat 7/10 tomy setup, and who says etv is the best on that bird? i guess those that said that were wrong, my best entertainer is emmanueltv, if you see how the guy dey command demons anyhow boy i was really entertained, it just reminded me those days when i was much younger and was watching all those performances in a circus show that was being aired on NTA channel 5. For me oooo, i will definitely choose emmanueltv, i don't watch his preachings but only watch the casting, binding and lossening of demons.

Press TV, is also a good news channels also with SABC and CNBC, etv is very good in terms of movies and human angle stories like cheaters, i really love that.

Below is the picture of my new setup, i will be adding one for NSS7 next weekend

« #1356 on: July 19, 2008, 12:22 PM »

I read an interview of Dopkesi on vanguard on tuesday where he revealed his plans for daarsat.
There were a lot of questions that needed answers that he didnt provide and i will gladly point it out here.
He said daarsat will begin test-runningfrom AUG1st, and roll-out fully on SEP1st. The 1st question is , through which transmission?
There're basically 2 answers for this great question, it can either be through terrestial cable transmission(d one hitv used first) and through satellite Xmission. Since his aim is to focus on Africa, that is become a household name in africa, that means he will be using a steelite Xmission, and what are the satellites available here in africa? we have W4, W3A, 7/10 and NSS7.
  So lets start with W4 option, Dstv,HITV and Trendtv all belongs to this bird and its sad to know that there're no free transponders available on this bird, thats one of the main reason hitv is finding it very hard in adding new channels, because a Xponder can take a maximimum of about 8 channels, so daarsat needs like 5 Tps to begin with for their 40 channels, so the W4 option is totally out.
  The NSS7 option, this bird has so many beam locations but the one daarsat can settle for is the west-africa location, but if we are to examine this location map on lyngsat, we'll see that it didnt cover much of africa, it only covers ver well the west-african/sub-saharan part, so those location out of the footprint will need a bigger dish much more than 90cm to receive it, and that will simpy be disastrous for daarsat because not much people will be get across to.
  W3A option, as for me with utmost sincerety on my part, this will be the best satellite for daarsat to use in achieving its aims and objectives, if we are tolook at its africa footprint we'll see that  the beam cuts through the whole of west, sub-saharan to the the eastern part of the continect and all down to the southern part. The reason is that more people will be be gotten across to, and the maximum size  of dish to be used in this footprint is just 90cm and even lower than that in some locations. This bird is even tagged the bird that covers the most part of the africa continent. And the best part is that there're still free Tps available on this bird
  Intelsat 7/10 is also the same with W3A, just that the bird has been hijacked by all these religious stations who have been banned from airing such programmes from their homesoil, i guess u all know what am saying, i can't really say if there're still free Tps available on this bird, i guess there should still be, the coverage/footprint is nonetheless different from W3A.

   So with all these options being listed above, i think they(daarsat) better go on satellite Xmission, but something deep within me is saying the will be using digital terrestial Xmission.

@ enigma,
i will also like your additional information on this, because i know how good you are in this.

@ others,
additional contributions are also welcome.

hi enitan 2000,in most cases of eutelsat w4 freq.,they take a max. of 16 to 17 channels.there will is no more freq on w4 till may 2009,when eutelsat launches w7 to annex w4.w7 will have 74 transponders[freq],with beams for africa/south africa/nigeria,russia,europe,west asia and internet.

when u use mpeg 4 daar will be able to add 20 to 21 channels on a freq.most of the freq on nss7 are mpeg4 that why u see 20 tv and 3 to 4 radio channels on it.but i till daar will be using digital cable transmission.that why they are opening up ait stations nationwide to house the base station.

enitan2002,

I have gone through my posts on the previous page to find out where exactly I said that the C and KU band have to do with dishes but i failed to point out exactly where.

Maybe I gave that impression somehow but i really did not mean that. I know I mentioned the differences b/w the two bands on the grounds of frequency and radio power. If i gave that impression, my analogy from VHF and UHF frequecies  from the old TV sets should rest it.
If I gave that impression somehow, i wish to state here that it is not my opinion. The difference lies  on the frequency.

@thando,
you better believe it girl, these FTA (free to air) digital satelite signals reception is 100% legit and yessssssss, it's absolutely free to receive digital satelite television and radio signals. all you need is a digital satelite receiver and a dish and you are set.
the channels you can receive depends on several factors, chief among them is your location which determines what satelites you can recieve, which inturn tells you what channels that are FTA that you can watch, if you are locked to any particular satelite.
so, what are you waiting for, join the club!!!!!! Grin Grin Grin

Have they confirmed that they will only be transmitting on KU frequency only, if not I think there is a broad C band footprint from various satellites on Africa.

Daarsat could be operating on sirius that enigma mention the other day.  A quick look at that satellite revealed that the signal is very full in Nigeria and since daarsat is suppose to be for Nigeria, I want to believe that it is sirius.  Let us keep watch though.
