Being at the right place at the right time. I am an Arsenal fan and for me to admit that Lampard plays well takes is not really easy. He drives the team forward but truth be told, Chelsea wouldnt be such a force without Claude Makelele. Is it a coincidence that since Makelele left Real Madrid, they have struggled? Come to think of it, I shoulda picked Makelele rather than Frank Lampard.

and don't forget that Etoo is actually a Madrid player now running for Barcelona, meanwhile the wasted millions in signing Beckham, Owen etc when they had a ready made finisher in Etoo

i read somewhere (last season) that the top 3 earners are madrid players.

beckham
zidane
ronaldo

madrid know how to spend.

then vieri, del piero, lampard

vieri?! hard to believe. but his salary would definitely drop now that he has moved to milan

My order is:

CLAUDE MAKALELE  : Best defensive midfeilder in the world for 3 consecutive seasons. Jose Mourino even call him " most underrated player in the premiership.

STEVEN GERRHAD : Plays in 3 different position to win Champions league for his unfacied club;Liverpool.    Consistense for National team as well

FRANK LAMPARD: Premiership player of the year 2004/2005. Record holder of 160 consecutive matches in  the premiership. Best penalty taker at the moment. Best kicker of the ball. Current highest goal scorer in the premiership. Consecutive good performance for National team.

RONALDIHO : What else to say ? The other players that has similar skill are Zola, Jay-jay & Denis beckham.
World best player at the moment.
ESSIEN:    £24m move that makes him the most expensive African player. France footballer of the year. Walks straight into the star-studded Chelsea first team. Ring bearer for Ghana towards the world cup.

Akolawole, what makes Lampard the best penalty taker at the moment? What makes hm better than Yak? I even think Yak takes better penalties that Lampard.

Well for me the best right now are;

T. Henry

G. Ronaldinho

S. Gerrard

F. Lampard

S. Etoo

Akolawole,

Can't understand why the highest goal scorer in europe last season (Henry) shouldn't make the list. If he doesn't, no other striker should.

My list:
Ronaldinho
Gerrard
Henry
Schevchenko
Terry

man, Akolawole, if u don't know, don't claim you know.

Henry scored more goals than any other player last season.

what did schevchenko do? it's very obvious now that u watch only english football. it's not like i'm a milan fan but guy.apart from kaka, schevchenko was milan's main man.

as regards to penalties, you haven't heard of del piero abi? i've only ever seen him miss one penalty in my life and that was vs. inter in 1998 and i believe he deliberately missed it. you haven't heard of shearer abi? who the hell is lampard?

1 Henry  (Arsenal)
2 Obafemi Martins (Inter Milan)
3 Adriano (Inter Milan)
4 Yakubu (Portsmouth)
5 Deco (Barcelona)

I think u guys under-rate Nigeria players alot, have u guys forgeten that the yak was the second highest goal scorer after Henry, he scored four times in a game more than once. Since he left portsmouth, they have been in decline, not even lua lua could help. I think last season after henry, then eto'o and yakubu. These were the top three strikers last season. please somebody dispute that. obafemi and adriano are not far behind either. Grin

the real football is soccer.
i think american football is boring, can't understand it. rugby is even more exciting but nothing compares to the real football.

For last season I don't see any other player worthy of it but Steven G.He single handedly won the cahmpions league for liverpool, remember they dusted Chelsea,Juve and did the gratest comeback in footbal history with Ac Milan, comon guys give it to him,he played in the defence at the tail end of the finals, started  in the attack and then moved to the middle. No one is more deserving than Steven G

hi friends of nairaland, what an interesting topic to talk about but i think if we should be objective about it and keep fanatism aside,
w'll  be able to come out with a good list like what i have. just like the world football governing body (FIFA)  has;

                RONALDINHO
                SAMUEL ETO'O FILS
                 FRANK LAMPARD
                  THEIRY HENRY
STEPHEN GERAD.  HEY ANY QUAMS about THAT? Cool
