Sincerely, some people has a weird idea of making friends.
1, Drop you numbers and email on a forum without any clue of who you are or who s/he is.
2, Stay behind your computer or clutch your cellphone closely to your heart in anticipation of a strange call from interested persons;
3, begin an impressive dialogue mostly what the other fellow want to hear;
4, fall in love. Love at first chat;
5, discover the other side of your "lover";
6, get mad and get heart broken;
7, return to the forum and begin from No. 1.
8, The cycle repeat it self!

Nothing as annoying as unsolicited Yahoo! contact, from complete strangers.
Here's one I received a few minutes ago,
ijeteg4 is currently not in your Messenger List. Add to your Messenger List (Ctrl+Shift+A) Report as Spam (Alt+Shift+R)
ijeteg4: hello Siena, this is brothlover from Nairaland.com ijeteg4: hy ijeteg4: hy siena ijeteg4: are u there ijeteg4: just want to ask u something ijeteg4: go to hell and remain there Siena Conner: Who's this? ijeteg4: dambells Siena Conner: Why the insults?? ijeteg4: sorry am sitting with ma friend here he think s your not replying is an insult ijeteg4: please forgive me ijeteg4: he wrote it Siena Conner: Cool. ijeteg4: i was away then Siena Conner: That's very rude, how can I answer if I'm in hell? ijeteg4: am 18 male living in swindon ijeteg4: sorry 4 that Siena Conner: Tell your friend, the fact someone's signed in, does not mean they're in front of the PC, besides, my status said "busy". Siena Conner: So, how can I help? ijeteg4: i have said sorry Siena Conner: And I've accepted. ijeteg4: u live in europe i guess ijeteg4: nice pic Siena Conner: I'm in the UK, yes.
And the worse aspect is, you've got your status set to "busy", someone unknown comes along, ignores the "busy" sign, gets no answer from you, and proceeds to rain insults on you! Why do they imagine everyone spends all their time sat in front of a PC?

Lolthat person is a clown. U know,the best way to stop receiving all these unannounced visitors is to remove ur e-mail addy.If they want anything tangible/serious from u,they would ask or talk to u politely.

Nana, you're right. Happily, I'm the sort that doesn't take offence at insults, or insuld back. Water off the proverbial duck's back! Life's too short to get angry over folk like that, young enough to be my son. I'm always a happy bunny!

The problem with some people is that they don't know when to be serious. Personally, I don't ignore I'm from strangers until I heard what they have to say. It is a stupid thing for a stranger to expect I would not ask questions about his mission. With yahoo boys on the prowl, everyone just has to be alert.
Maybe we should turn the table against the poster of this thread and change the direction of the topic from his negative intent into positive.
The issues are :
1, How do we recognize a spammer? A potential swinddler?
2, what should you do to stop an unsolicited messenger, If it has stupid and irrational motive?
3, what are the signs that a particular messenger is running a foul course?
5, how best can we relate to a stranger using yahoo, knowing that providence sometimes bring good ones along bad ones?
Let share experience. Who knows some people with "CANCER OF THE MIND" ( apology to $$Rhino) would be healed once and for all. And some innocent would be spared of broken heart. With many people unwilling to share their mail, with bad internet image for Naija worldwide, methink this thread can achieve something positive,
Let set the ball rolling.

I wasn't ignoring the unknown messenger, I simply wasn't there.
Besides, if one chooses to ignore a messenger they don't know, it should be their choice too.
I personally do NOT send unsolicited messages to strangers. I find a lot of folk who come via Nairaland quite rude, starting contact with asl?
A bit like phoning someone, and asking them who they are! And, if you choose to make contact with strangers, that have their pictures on their profiles, it's only polite to have your picture visible too. And, in first contact, refrain from "text" talk.

Quite right. Sometimes, I also noticed that the fellow who I'm you first would insist you first introduce yourself! A complete stranger. It is like walking up to me on the road and the say:
"who are you please identify yourself!".
The only people that I know with that bad manner are the Nigerian police! Nobody ever like them for it even if the police are doing their job. We hate it!
Sometimes, I just dribble them too until they tell me who they are.
However, if I had had a prior contact with fellow, like at a forum, I would be patience probably tell them why they should introduce themselves.
Yes, some guys on nairaland can be rude. They are mostly underage secondary school student. You would recognize them based on their choice of words. Mature mimd use matured words. Fools uses foul languages.
Learn to recognize people through their choice of words and you would know who is worthy of your time. I am not insinuating that every secondary school guys are rude. I have met very nice Jambites. But it appear, the idiots out numbered those nice chaps.

Siena, there's no way someone, whose id is not in ur list, can know ur yahoo status.
My advice to all yahoo msgr users is to hear the person out, if u have the time, or simply hit the ignore button.

And, in first contact, refrain from "text" talk Please help me tell them. Also someone should tell these blockheads that starting a convo with "BUZZ!!" or even using "BUZZ!!" whatsoever diminishes their chances of a conversation to absolute zero. Rubbish.

For a stranger you mean, ThiefofHeart? Some people like it.
But if a complete stranger use it, it mean he is rude and impatience. But my friend can do so for age. It is ok.

Sweetheart, it's been a long time since I heard that word, it's along the lines of " yamhead"! As for buzzing, you're right. A definite no-no.

very simple solution, if anyone 'buzzes' you and you're not interested, YIM is so good that you can simply ignore them and you'll never get another pesky message from that person again! but the part I don't understand is why men will be buzzing me and asking for 'asl' . For crying out loud, I aint anonymous on nairaland, my sex and even a picture is there to prove I am male, abi women dey grow that kain bear bear for face? This has happened not once, twice or three times, in fact I get one of them each week on average. I've only chatted with like 2 people from here that I didnt know previously from nairaland, and they've been pretty cool, and its because of occasional rarities such as those that I leave my YIM on my profile.

Clown? You said it!
Debosky, maybe the guys thought you are gay!
On a serious note, I think we should educate the ignorants. Some people don't know what the BUZZ is meant for. Others simply click on their computer!
