hello man I am also a new student here in the uk,I am studying for my M.sc at the university in stratford and I am also trying to settle down,I think the first thing is to get a NI,student oyster card which takes like 5-7 days to come through and of course opening a bank account,if you done with these then other things will follow through,where in london are you exactly?

@OP
Try registering with agencies but get you NI number first as well a letter from your school so as to open an account
I doubt you will have lectures everyday so you may consider overnight work , it pays more
I hope other real students can give you more
i am not a UK student but i have loads of friends who are so i'll see what else i can find out

if you don't have a permanent NI now, u could use a temporary one. I think its in this format. TN191007
TN: TEMPORARY 19:DAY OF BIRTH 10:MONTH OF BIRTH 07:YEAR OF BIRTH.
i think there should be another alphabet at the ending bt not too sure, if it was a permanent one, u ld have anothe alphabet at the ending

You no lie at all. i arrived in England on Wed this week after i picked my passport from the embassy on monday with my issued uk student visa. i had to sleep in London over the night before i jetted for Nottingham the next day. all the blacks i saw in London were nigerians i taught i was still in Lagos. if you no hear them speak yoruba you go hear ibo. but i thank God Nottingham is not like London i see more whites than blacks here.

I agree i think its because when u travel abroad your first thought is that you will meet foreigners so when u land and all you feel and here is Naija u kind of feel dissapointed. Its okay though sometimes all that home support comes in handy at least in London and greater london you can get correct Naija food and vegetables, still groove at authentic Naija fuji parties

Just wondering?
How does racism issues in London (with high black population) compare with other large UK cities , where I presume will have fewer black settlers
