Samuel Peters really did it. But I must say I'm really skeptical about him as a heavy weight champion. He needs serious training. Very serious work out. His body looks nothing like a fighter and the way he fell in the 3rd round was really embarrassing, confusing and totally inexplicable.
That guy really needs to do a lot of work. When I saw him fall in the 2nd and 3rd rounds, I began to believe he was throwing the match. I still can't believe that match wasn't arranged to be so dramatic. If Vladamir Klitschko meets Peters in this current form, there will be a total Nigerian Nightmare for us all.
And then again, what's with claiming Nevada as his hometown? What happened to Uyo?
Well it was quite an achievement.
bibiking, we're meeting this week.

@ denex You so funny dude. That 3rd round was really embarrassing and confusing. The guy looked like he didnt know where he was lol!!!!. But he won on points and if u had listened to the commentator according to their own calculations Samuel Peter actually won, but he was lucky, if na Mike Tyson or someone like him he fought, men he would have been knocked out in the 3rd or 4th round. He has a lot of work to do.

I think its a great feat to have even gotten this far.
Remember this is the first time an African is even getting this far in boxing.
McCline is taller and don't forget Peter never trained against him.
More prayers will see him through.

Well you guys will also remember he knocked Klitschko down thrice but still ended up losing on points so the key thing here is he didnt get knocked out he only got knocked down he obviously needs to step up though

I still think this guy can really rule the world for a long time to come. I noticed he has some amazingly quick punches that come from nowhere. Samuel Peters is the next Foreman
@Seun Very funny, very soon you will lose track of your own name too

Uncle Seun, Samuel Peters beat American Jameel McCline to defend his WBC Interim Heavyweight Title.
He was to have fought former champion Vitali Klitschko in Munich, but Klitschko pulled out of that fight with a back injury.

@ PastorKing,
Samuel Peters is not the first African to capture the heavy weight crown. Herbie Hide (from Naija) was once the WBO World Heavyweight champ.
Henry Akinwande was also a world Heavyweight champ, I think he held the WBO or WBA version.
Kudos to Samuel Peter the third Heavyweight champ from good old Naija!!!!!!!!!

hmmm!seems u were caught napping.anyways we,nigerians have a super fighter now, once again on the world map. but i have my reservations about him keeping the title, because the ways he fell ehn,i no fit look am oo!chei thank God no bi Tyson he meet oo! now that klitwoteva will be bolder to want to fight now after chickening out through injury. please, abeg he needs serious training ooo if he intends to keep his title.

Actually the fight is yet to happen b/w Nigerian night mare and the Vitali Klitschko. A stuffy guy was used in the interim for replacement.

Really??? The more I think of that 3rd round and the thought of him still going to fight Vitali Klitschko later made me to think that we should enjoy this championship while it last. So I say Congratulations to Nigerian all over the world for this beautiful achievement.

In the days of Tyson all his opponents were heavier, older, taller and had longer reach If you are good you are good.
But I tire for Nigerians when Peters knocked down Klitscko thrice and still lost a lot of Nigerians screamed about racism, Why not now when the exact opposite happened.
When Messi scored 2 penalties against Nigeria we all complained but when we robbed Uganda in Abeokuta disqualifying a legitimate goal or When Amunike scored from an offside position in Atlanta 96 final nobody complained.

Didn't watch the match but read reports of it on different sites on the internet this morning. I'm happy Samuel Peters won,but from the various accounts that i read & what users here have alluded to,his falling in rounds 2 &3? was quite worrying. I must say though that the whole thing is a bit suspicious to me, you know the fact that when he fell & in some other instances,Mccline could have "finished him off" to win the match, but he curiously said his "hands were tied" & also apparently at some instances during the fight,it was as if he couldn't move, even his wife was screaming ringside for him to take the match& the title!! One commentator/reporter said it was all "very curious".I just hope this is not a case of Mccline deliberately throwing the match or to those of you more superstitiously minded, naija jazz at work!, just joking LOL!

Please samuel never defeated kiltchiko The fought in sept 2005
The final round saw a big left early in the round, which seemed to wobble Klitschko. But it was Wladimir with the last big punch of the night; like an exclamation mark, he landed a left hook that finally seemed to hurt Peter. So, Wladimir Klitschko won the game, Sam Peter's perfect record was marred, and George Foreman would happily consider another guest appearance for the rematch.
oleg maskaev vs sam peters going to be the fight of the deacde @kilkeny be at the maddsison square or wherever for the match,so u will put and end to your doubts about the fighting spirit of peters

@ Crown Villa,
Peter is not the first African to win the HW but the one you listed were also not. Hide and Akinwande both had the WBO belt around their respspective waists when it was not a linear title and they both fought under brithis flags/Anthems.
3 AFRICAN that were world HW champions are;
Gerry Coetzee Frank Botha Corrie Sanders
all South Africans.
