( Freelance Web Developers)should take Advantage Of This Season
« on: October 14, 2007, 09:55 AM »

Now i intend that this post of mine should be more of a suggestive business idea that all Freelance web developers/designers can take advantage of to make cool extra cash for themselves due to the season / period of the year we are currently in.

Certainly we are in the last quarter of the year which suggest that the American DV-lottery 2009 application submission is taking place. Now if you are a freelance developer or you run your own web design firm with a condusive office i see no reason why you can't take advantage of the moment and infact maximize it.

I expect every serious web developer/designer with his or her own office to have the following :

1. A good high resolution Scanner

2. A printer

3. A digital camera

4. Internet access via dial up or wireless aircard

5. A fast laptop or at least a good desktop system.

If you have the above listed items then you are almost in business, simply get yourself a sign artist to do you a good banner and have up somewhere catchy and expect folks to knock on your door or give you a call.

Personally i've been doing it for a couple of years and its fun and rewarding.Except that now i've moved to the next level which involves you actually helping your successful winners to process their applications, such as getting them a sponsor in the US and other issues regarding their settling down in the US.

Well i've said enough, just try it and make a few extra  hundrend thousand(s) for yourself. Cheers and Good luck.

egbon, nice one, but do u really think folks would pay thousands to get it done when they could go into numerous cafes and pay like 300 bucks for it.

Thanks a million for those xxxxxxxx you gave me,it was a pleasure meeting you.

@webemarald

The pleasure in mine. Now regarding the issue of charging a thousand bucks, certainly i do admit that is relatively high for a single entry applications, however its certainly not too much for either a couple or family application.

Now regarding having it done at a cybercafe for N300,well different strokes for different folks.Personally i know the crude and othodox approach that cybercafes adopt to processing applications. Its certainly all about your professional approach towards processing your clients entries.\personally i don't have the time to do it myself this year however i have set up structures that i have laid down for my subordinates in the office to follow.

as with all things business,  there is the "ajegunle market" approach and there is the "leventis" approach.  Both sell the same things but you pay for the convenience with the latter.  There is a market for both approaches.  It is up to you as a business person to determine which niche you want to settle for.

I personally don't mind paying the extra money (even when I don't have it) and driving an extra 10 miles, if where I am going to has people who will treat me as a human being.  But that's just me.

As always, my 2 cents.

I honestly don't recall what it looked like before (I view 100s of sites daily) but based on what I see so far (and I use FF):

1) I like the simplicity

2) I would make your portfolio pages such that you don't have to refresh the page each time I click on a page link

3) I would make it possible to go to a portfolio of yours by providing a link, instead of me having to copy and paste the link in a new window.

4) Personal call: I hate constantly moving flash movies.  I think most people now know to go to your "contact" page if they need your number

5) In the footer, if i hover over a link, the nav bar shifts.  Not good.

I hope these help.

My honest feedback on your site, www.webemerald.com

1. simplify
2. excellent consistency, user-friendly, efficiency, readability site
3. excellent to limit 3 major site color background: orange, blue, and white. (include hue color similar) that matches your company logo
3. on portfolio page, you need clickable URL or picture to view real sites you created. As my2cents has said.
4. your top constantly banner (flash movie) is annoyed me each time I click each page.
5. Add 3 text size and color options for user like to change size larger or smaller or color (lighter or darker) due to web accessibllity rules---some people have difficult to read smaller text or color bad for them. (optional)

Tanx,
your inputs are well noted, like i said im still experimenting witha few things and dnt forget i did this over night.

As for the flash, though u folks may not like it, i think for the sake of my clients,i need to add it,ill also remember to make the link clickable,i 4 got to include my A tag in the database table.

webemarald,

That is why you should either have developed your new site in a different folder or developed it in a development environment.  Then once you are absolutely sure, you launch it in your production environment.

What would you do if you go to a site you have been to before and the links don't work or you did some googling for a web host/developer in Nigeria only to find out you didn't know how to look at sites the person created?  Be honest, what would you do?

You never know whose out there.  You never know how many potential millions you could be losing.

As always, my 2 cents.

web emerald, that is a good one. The only thing i can say is that you need to make the various links to those sites load in a new window with the actual website not an enlargement of the picture. Great job, i am still quite new, as at this time, i do not even have a port folio, but then my site is stil fair enough quotin reviews. You can check it out, follow the link below:
