That is why the manufacturer offers you Warranty. Should anything go wrong with the machine that is not deliberate, you can contact the manufacturer send it in and have it fixed for you. That is why it is best to get machines that are under warranty and not machines that are used and off the manufacters block.

But I have yet to hear of the claims you make so far. HP is actually doing well. Where were the machines in question purchased from?? @Ricki

All machine makes have their problems every now and then. If you notice from the posts, some people sent in their machines and got the problem fixed while others did not send them in and still did not get the problem resolved. Even if you were to buy a car today, chances are you may have problem with something but if you buy from a reputable source.  I myself have had issues with machines in the past and have come to appreciate the good of having warranty should anything happen, I just send it back with my complaint and I get back a machine that works. You sent the same laptop in FIVE Times and they did not give you a new one by the third time?? Where did you send it to?? Should I give you the number or something so you call and demand a new laptop for your money???

After looking further into Rickis earlier post I found additional pertinent facts I thought warranted some elaboration. As Ricki earlier stated there are some HP models  (not all hps) with certain issues. And within those identified models some serial numbers have been highlighted.

The specific symptoms identified are :-

    *
The notebook does not detect wireless networks and the wireless adapter is not detected in the Device Manager.
NOTE:    If the notebook PC starts normally please verify that your system BIOS is version F.3a or greater before contacting support for this issue. For instructions on determining the current version of the BIOS installed and how to obtain the latest version see the "Update the BIOS to version F.3a or later" section of this document.
    *
The notebook has no power and no active LEDs.
    *
      The notebook does not start.
    *
The battery charge indicator light does not turn on when the battery is installed and the AC adapter is connected.
    *
The notebook issues a single beep during boot indicating no power.
    *
There is no video on the computer LCD panel or external monitor.
    *
The external monitor functions but there is no image on the notebook LCD panel.

Here is what HP is doing about the dv6000 and dv9000 series that were identified as having those issues:-

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericDocument?docname=c01087277&dlc=en&lc=en&cc=us

Basically, If you own a HP dv 6000  (model number between ddv60xx and dv63xx) or dv 9000 (model number between dv90xx and dv93xx), or Compaq presario (model numbers between V60xx and V63xx) then you need to check the serial number of your laptop to determine if it has been flagged as likely to have the issues HP has identified.

For easy reference here is the range of possibly affected serial numbers :-

dv9000dv6000, V6000
xxx630xxxx - xxx728xxxxxxx625xxxx - xxx726xxxx

HP will repair your laptop FREE if it meets the above criteria.

peace,
