The difference between armed robbery and prostitution is obvious to all educated people.  An armed robber forces you to part with your money but a prostitute is patronized by willing customers.  An armed robber forces you to give up what belongs to you and threatens your life, but a prostitute only patronizes men that are willing to pay for her services.

A prostitute doesn't force herself on anybody, so prostitution is just another cash and carry business.

You are so wrong about the above. Have you been to Port Harcourt?
You will change your mind if you do!

hello @reyes4eva in the mean time i too have cooled my head.
I will not say all women do it for money i also know of cases were the girls did it just for the fun of it.
There are so many bad things out there and you can't ban all because you are afraid for your kids.
its up to society to teach their children to say NO it starts with smoking drinking   or even earlier.
short story, when my big daughter was still in nursery school, there was this child that had a nut allergy. The mother tried to ban anyone from bringing groundnuts or any other nuts to school . some refused , they told her its up to her to teach her child not to eat nuts. and even if they make a nut cake on the birthday of their children then the child has to know that he she can't eat this cake.( In germany when a child has birthday the mother brings cake to the school).
This mother with the allergy child felt that no mum should bring a nut cake or nuts so that her child too can eat cake or not be sad because its not allowed to eat.

You may ask what dose groundnut have to do with what we are talking about. My answer one can not start Early enough to teach a child to say no.

@ Kajad most times these women are in restricted areas so anyone going there is to blame for whatever.

Are you saying that I should choose where I hang out because of the fear of prostitutes?
If you read Kimba’s post about his visit to Thailand where prostitution is legal you will see other problems it breeds. Kimba’s fear was not armed robbers but harassment by prostitutes. Get? There are certain things in life you cannot regulate. Prostitution is one!

First, every woman (an some men) have the tool of the trade and the commodity is very mobile. The trade can be conducted at any place, time or occasion and the mode of solicitation is infinite. The practitioners have no special qualification or trading and can choose to practice any time without notice; they can even practice part time or in secrete. The trade and armed robbery have a symbiotic relationship as far as Nigeria is concerned.  I could go on to quote other negative things associated with prostitution.

I must however state that prostitutes have their needs in the society, but when placed on comparative scale I am of the opinion that discouraging the trade will be more beneficial to the society.

Thailand  is an extrem case and even in germany today anyone that says they are going to Thailand will have people raising their eye brows,
In germany the proffession is legalized. They pay tax and have to go for regular check ups.
They also have restricted areas were they stand or houses.
Meaning you are not allowed to look for costumers anywere you want.
And men know were to go and look for them.
Even here there are places people don't go to because its like looking for trouble.
There are many dark sides because i must admit that they suffer under their pimps, and its like a slavetrade she Russia.(They women are forced into the profession)
But if it was in Government hands, its an other story.
There will be no import and export of women.
The women will pay tax to the state and there will be more police presence in these areas,
of cause that is a dream in Nigeria because the police will turn to pimp.

By the way i have this German  Girlfriend and she had a Nigerian boyfriend, but staying in Nigeria.
they planed to meet in Kenya and she came a few days be4 him .(she wanted to get brown be4 she met him.
She complained badly bout the beachboys that kept harassing her the whole day.
they only left herlone when the boyfriend came.
so a woman going to Kenya alone is also looking for trouble

Wow, prostitution and armed robbery go hand in hand. I suppose I understand, in prostitution, I (theoretically) would give my money for sex.  In armed robbery, I (theoretically) would give my money for my life.

So, you are correct, there is an exchange of sorts which characterize the two.

In fact, by that token, you can relate prostitution, armed robbery, and religion.

In religion, I (theoretically) give ownership of my soul in for everlasting happiness.

Or, is there some other relationship that you were talking about?

Yes.  Armed robbery and prostitution are equivalent to making phone calls.  In exchange for a phone voucher, I give away my money.  How immoral!  We need to ban prostitution, armed robbery, phone ownership and commerce.

Waiiiiit. . .

we can't really ban anything, because in order to enforce a ban, we would have to submit ourselves to law.

But, we exchange some measure of personal freedom in order to have the protection of lawand this is similar to what happens with armed robbery and prostitution. .

I guess there is no way out of thisexcept anarchy?. . .

interesting topic this. ave read some of the posts and as much as i have liked what some people have saidi wondered at the rest, what world do they come from?
1st that girl who came to kenya, where was she staying?beachboys are restricted in the big and more presentable hotels. most people want to save money and end up staying in dingy hotels that have no restrictions as concerns commercial sex workers whether male or female.
short story: maggie is CSW and has 3 kids, 2 boys and a girl. everyone in the community knows what type of job she does but that does not deter her from creating a good life for her kids. she has worked hard to see that they attend school upto campus level and have gotten good jobs. now do we say like mother like daughter?
another case is where the girl refused to finish school, dropped out of high school and joined her mum in the trade, against her wishes! why? becoz it is less strenous and has good money!
I would like to see us offering CSWs an alternative of the streets rather than castigate them for the work they do(which incidentaly they don't do alone!)
our fathers, sons, brothers, boyfriends need to be educated on using protection because they are the ones who sleep with these 'women' and 'men'!

This is quite an interesting post. Prostitution is an age long "profession" and whether we like it or not, it has come to stay and stay it shall.

Men who patronise them do so at their own discretion and nobody not even the whores should be blamed for any harm that comes their way. Though it is wise for the government to regulate their activities by having them go for compulsory periodic tests like is done is some countries, this might make them go under and create a sort of black market scenario.

All in all, prostitutes engage in their activities for various reasons, some for financial ends and some just for the fun of it.  So we should just leave them to their "trade" if its against your moral ethics I guess just look the other way.

LECTURES FROM MUM HERE:
All you guys condemning Seun and the prostitutes, please will you let me hear words, and in what sense exactly are these people posing threats to other people than cigarettes, alcohols and drugs. You have your money; you buy whatever you like with it. They never force anyone to buy anything, please let’s be fair here and they did not trick anyone into buying anything from them either. Also, people buying from them are adults right? If they are well enlightened about HIV or love themselves so much why would they buy such products in the 1st place?

Why condemn the sellers, why not the buyers?
I can’t go to the market and buy what I know would harm me with my money, that is absolutely impossible unless am planning to commit suicide, in which case, I’ll say that is what exactly the buyers of pussy (xcuz my language) are doing.
And are we forgetting something here? You don’t have to sleep with a prostitute to have HIV please remember. How about your boy/girl friend, not to mention other possibilities which do not involve sex.

I have been involved in a debate like this about a year ago, where my friends were like they would rather have an armed robber in their family than a prostitute. Well I said it’s the other way round for me (I deliberately said this then basically because the particular friend who raised the topic had slept with like 20 guys under the pretence of “he’s my boyfriend”, she’s forever having a new boy friend) Now tell me how is she different from the prostitutes? because she’s not getting paid or because she’d claim she’s been in love with every one of them? Stop shitting me please. My reasons for choosing a prostitute are mainly because:
•   An armed robber brings pains to people he robs; a prostitute brings joy to whom she serves.
•   An armed robber derive happiness from whom he robs from all the time, a circumstantial prostitute feels pain,  unhappiness each time she sells (Except the girls who are doing it for greed)
•   A prostitute only weapon is condom, an armed robbers weapon are guns, knifes, cutlasses, axes, juju to mention a few.
•   A prostitute gives becomes HIV free giver right? An armed robber gives you instant death. (This is important because  HIV+ patients now have their whole life ahead of them if they get help of course, and even if they did not get help, you’ll have the chance of saying goodbye to them with a dead person what life/chance do you have?)
•   An armed robber will be violent towards you, a prostitute will be wild (which what most guys like anyway, wild sex)
•   Now, eventually, an armed robber is 75% likely to turn into a hired assassin, with only 2.5% in prostitutes (personal research please, carried out on 100 people in the area of Lagos. So don’t even think of asking me of source).

Now to be really fair, what about pastors who go into church businesses to make money? Deceiving innocent souls they have been ordained by God. Do they have any respects for God at all? How about morals, do they have any?
Logic behind this is that people will do anything for money, of which prostitution is the least. Moreover, did u eva asked yourself why these people go in this buz, some do it because they have to make ends meet. So please before we judge anyone, let’s think 2x.

We agree.  Telemarketers in the USA are regulated.  There are laws governing when you can be called and if your name and # are on the national Do Not Call list, it is illegal to call you for telemarketing purposes.  Otherwise, telemarketers for the most part would be "harassing" everyone.

Notice, the response was not to ban telemarketing, simply to regulate it.  There is a difference between something being legal, illegal, and under regulation.

Drugs such as cocaine are illegal and so are not regulated.
Pharmacuetical drugs are legal and regulated
So-called natural drugs are legal and not regulated

one thing i have come to learn on NAIRA LAND seun is this, reasonable posts don't have to take the whole computer screen. NFERYN made a biutiful incisive contribution and none of you saw it. 'agba ofifo lo n ka raun'.

if we are ever blaming prostitution for the spread of the hiv scurge, we are all just kidding ourselves, the spread of these disease is more by the un-satiable nature of individulas-especially the men, for sex.simple. y blame the service providers for services, whatever happened to the people who voluntarilly patroise this people. holland understood this and they make national cake off it and yet- if my research is correct, std's are not as rampant as it is hia. everything in life nids regulation-they regulated theirs and they re the betta for it and the moral buffuns like babnla and skiox or whatever wu play moral demi-gods in Nigeria have pulled us down to where we re today because of their naroow mindedness and myopic view of things.
and people like you would want to hold govt positions with such narrow-mindedness."to ba ya, wan ni- d govt is failing the people" not knowin that the same people re more confused dan the govt-because the same people makeup d govt.

i cld never vote for you guys for any govt post- u ll make the country worse off Cry Sad Angry
