Have you guys ever sat down to reason and visualize how this Forum will be without these persons who are insultive
and abusive? Most times they add spice to the whole thing and make it more entertaining. Again it is all about individuals regadless of nationality, race or level
of education and always remember, some mothers do have them. We should not crucify them but take them as the concluding part of the forum because without
them the forum is inncomplete. even among the 12 that Jesus picked himself there was still a betrayal so Nairaland cannot do without them. All things ought and
need to be balanced as in having them : the Good, the bad anfd the Ugly.

I have gone through all the post posted here by you all and i come to a conclusion, what we lack as a people is anger management even the elite in the society has the same syndrome of anger.
I think seun should bring up an anger management forum where if a member start been abusive on a thread instead of contributing his opinion he or she should be sent there for two weeks to cool his abusive nature and all members will get to see who is the abusive member in the forum.
That way, he or she will learn to respect others people opinion even if the opinion is absurd.

See, in most developed countries--when an oyinbo man is livid, you will never know. No shouting or insults. Even with African countries lwith Kenyans or Camerounians or even Ghananians----- I have worked with a lot of them, you never hear most of them raise their voices in a public place. Most of them are polite. Nigerians will start from one end of the street and shout down the neighbourhood. Banging and beating chests to show frustration and anger. We love drama too much!

That is the common trend now which is very bad. Using abusive words or insulting someone else is not the way to solve a problem. I think we are matured enough and its high time we stop the unhealthy trend as it will affects us morally.
We should learn to seek otrher people's opinion and meditate on it instead of the normal reply and arguements which leads to insult.
Lets be civilized people.

I don't think it is as bad as it used to be since most of the trouble makers have been banned and re-banned. Just a few irredemable bashers still remain. Most of the problems starts as one rightly pointed out it someone disagrees with what you are saying. Some feel it is against "their" beliefs, like everyone must conform to one pattern of reasoning or livelihood. Instead of just going away quietly, some will want to stick their foot down your throat like you are a child or something. Trying to tell you what to agree on and what not to agree on. How disrespectful.

richyblack wrote This reminds me of a thread I posted my opinion and someone called ThiefOfHearts started insulting me just because my opinion was different from hers. I went into the mud pit with her.I also recall my experience with davidylan. He started with some rude comments; I exercised restraint and requested that we air our views (even if different) without resulting to nasty comments. He respected that for no more than two posts and then went back to insults. I removed my gloves.
Some people just can't express their views without use of derogatory/rude/insulting terms - I guess it's just how they are.
I'm of the opinion that if anyone insults or speaks rudely to me, that I reserve the right to respond in kind. However, I won't be the one to start a fight. ROFL. let me start by saying that TOH is one of my best pals on nairaland.love a woman who can say her mind fearlessly Richyblack,I remember that scene when I was my my real self You really did go into a pit and afterwards asked God to forgive you. I never laughed that hard.

amaikama The anger management forum is a good idea but send someone there to calm down and all they will do is register under a new usename and return to the main forum to continue the insults.

Quote from davidylan: TOH is actually very nice, perhaps those moaning are only expressing the pain of spurned overtures. On the contrary, this fellow replying you has never crossed her path. The conspicuous fact is based on observations from different threads - one of such is that, which RichyBlack referred to earlier. About her being nice; well, even the most cantankerous person on this forum could be the nicest person on earth to another. It's relative.

Seriously, I have noticed it. They are rude also and a simple conversation amy turn out sarcastic or negative. Besides nairaland, nigerians are not positive minded from my observation. Some tend to raise their voices over soft spoken phrases. Some go as far as insulting one's parents. I cannot understand it. I want to believe it isn't culture.

Many things contribute to what we are or become. People who had to fight their ways through life will never belief that a rational discussion about conflicting interests can ever take place.
They are used to 'attacking' as a means of defence because that is how they have been able to survive the kind of environment they have been exposed to.
I live in Warri and I know what I am talking about, the quite and reasonable man is a 'big mumu' in this place. But that also depends on what part of Warri you find yourself.

I read the 1st page thoroughly. Didn't read the others. Knowing nairaland they'll just be off topic filled mostly with insults.
My contribution to the discourse is:
looking from the bright side: this tendency actually enables Nigerians develop a thick skin. They'll even survive in hell.

Please people, if you think this forum is insulting you obviously don't belong to many other forums of this kind. I have seen to a number of them, from Black American to Ghanaian and I can honestly say that this site is the most tame when it comes to personal attacks, profanity and general verbal abuse. Is it really fair to judge Nigerians because of this site? If you visit www.nigeriansinamerica.com you will see a different style of communication between the members. Is it because they are displaying non nigerian attributes, or due to the fact that not all people, and therefore not all Nigerians are the same. Have you ever visited www.ghanaweb.com . Trust me I was disgusted with the way they treat eachother there, go and take a look. There are some Nigerians who are aggressive, we know that, but if you only notice a Nigerian in the street if he/she is screaming on her phone, you will conclude that its all we do. If a Nigerian is not known to you, but is in a pleasant mood or is indifferent, who is to say they don't have an annoyance which they are managing to hide while outside of their home, how exactly would you know? Out of the 140 million Nigerians you know and have met, is it a large enough proportion to account for the rest?

@ najia diva First question: what is Craigslist? Craig's list is THE WORLD largest online community site, 2nd or 3rd top world forum site, just like Nairaland forum. link: www.craigslist.orgTo look for hate-insult postings on craigslist, pick which countries you want to seek then find category "Personals" to click "rants and raves". Second question: am I really deaf? Yes, I am really deaf with excellent college-degreed education, entrprenuership (computer and internet specialist guru---soon will shut down my business this year), and friendly personality who thrist learning about Nigeria culture for my business proposal submission to help out Nigeria homeownership in the quality of electricity power and housing solution. I am black American-born. Few of my Nigeria friends said that i am too much feel like i am Nigeria woman to them after getting know me better---shocking that i type few Nigeria language. I have been doing my homework learning about Nigeria for one year and 3 months so far. thank you and i admire your interest in learning about our country and culture. I would have to agree with the person that said that sometimes the insult brings a little flavor to this forum. who said nigerians are abusive that person is an idiot and all of una wey de contribute nonsense for this useless thread are sick una mama no train una well. rubbish what will u say about people of other countries like US and England who use horrible manerism like a habit.in short all of una dey mad and the poster should go for psychiatric assessment. oloshi maku una go hang. period. ebot so far from what i've gathered, people are saying that nigerians are abusive because of the everyday struggles. i would have to say that people in the US and england can be quite agressive and lack manners but they are not going through as much hard times as any foreigner. so what's their excuse? i don't think that it is right to blame struggles for why nigerians are abusive.

For those who blame the Naija factor on these animalistic behaviours, I seriously doubt if that is the actual reason. I and some others were once attacked by one of such pixilated barbarians who claims in his profile, to live in the Netherlands, simply because our views were different from his. Here's one of his prattles: I then decided to communicate in the same language as he, when I realised that being civil with someone like him was just a mere waste of time. There are so many others like him on this forum as well. God help us!
