MEND Threatens To Blow Up The 3rd Mainland Bridge
« on: October 17, 2007, 01:38 PM »

What should the government do if in did they are planning to carry out this act of terrorism?

THE Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) has threatened to widen the theatre of conflict by blowing up the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos.

This latest threat was contained in an interview by Times of Nigeria website with Jomo Gbomo, the self-acclaimed leader of the militia group

This is a scary story when one considers the recent  history of explosives usage by MEND in their so far localised theater of conflict in the oil states.

Even if the attack on the Lagos Third Mainland Bridge is never carried out,  the issuance of this specific threat will have planted a seed of subliminal terror, particularly in the minds of those who commute daily in crawling gridlock traffic across that bridge, high above the shallow lagoon below.

It will be interesting to see if the MEND Fatwa on that Lagos bridge will produce a response of stepped-up security around strategic Lagos landmarks such as the Third Mainland Bridge, or if God will be left in charge of destiny, as usual.

The destruction of 3rd mainland bridge will be catastrophic to lagosians and to Nigeria as a nation.

If we can not curtail this hooligans among us, then how can we defend our nation if invaded by a neighbouring towns like Liberia, Sudan and Ghana?

The security apparatus should beef up security personnel's around this location.

If MEND blows up the third mainland, then they will graduate from freedom fighters to full-blown terrorist organization recognized by Nigeria, US,United Nations and every nation out there. If u think that killing innocent people who have nothing to do with the corruption and mismanagement among your governments in the Niger-Delta coupled with the neglect by the Nigerian govt and the Oil companies is going to solve your problem and bring u sympathy, then go ahead!

Alams stole millions of dollars and walks like a warrior. No one has made moves to bomb his house! Ibori has millions and a jet stashed in England and Odili is busy stopping EFCC from investigating him , yet MEND comes out to say that they will export violence! Go ahead!

I challenge them to go ahead with their plans, lets see who will come bashed left, right and center at the end of the day! Angry Angry Angry Angry

@Jakumo

I like the way you're tactically trying to permeate fear into the minds of Lagosians. You forget that even when Ikeja bomb blast happened, a lot of people still went back to the Cantonement to sleep.

I've been advocating for better utilization of our waterways in Lagos. Maybe this would be the only way to encourage water transport en masse.

Please they should bring those their powerful explosives which Jakumo claims they have and completely demolish the third mainland bridge. Let them not just blow out sections. They should take down the whole thing and save Fashola time and money, it would also speed up the construction of several ferry jetties around Lagos.

@Mamajama
The FGN wipe them out because they are not from your tribe. Good of you. Instead we will advocate for the govt to look into and find lasting solution to the problem on MEND and other factions in country you are hear opening your wide month advicing to wipe out a tribe. If you think that will solve the problem you better think again.

Dont mind mamajama

Maybe if he is CDS Andrew Owoye Azazi, or VP Goodluck Jonathan or IGP Mike Okiro or AVM Paul Dike you will lead the Army, Nigeria, Police or Airforce as the case may be to wipe out your own region?HuhHuh??

May be you need to be reminded that in the Niger-Delta their are also helpless people trying to make ends meet by difficult and legitimate ways.

Wasting the lives of innocent lagos commuters is no longer an act for freedom quest, it's terrorism. Cry
Those of u supporting the move should ask yourselves if u were to be there when it happens? and those of u suggesting that the tribe be wiped off should ask yourselves, if u were to be from that tribe, u are in lagos and your parents are there? Sad

Government should set-up a panel of committee (non-corrupt panel) to really dialog with these MEND guys, know what they want and work towards providing that for them. I believe that the Niger Deltas deserves far more than they are getting.

Sorry, abeg no bomb the third mainland bridge make u no go add more to the problem of lagosians all in the name of wanting the listening hear of the Federal Gov

Now that they've moved their headquarters from PH and Delta to Lagos,
The strong and long arms of the law ought to catch a handful and make a public display of them.
There is a proper way to voice frustrations and this is not it.

Alameseigha,a confirmed criminal came home to a hero's welcome.
why didn't MEND ask why he embezzled the money meant for the region?
They ought to be taught a bitter lesson before they hurt more innocent people.

They should paddle their canoe back to Yenegoa quickly

do you know how short changed this people have been over time? they do have a genuine cause for crying out loud!!!!!!

let us quickly find the solution to redress a wrong that should not have been allowed to get up to this stage!

MEND is just a group of wanking little boys who want what everyone else has. They should uproot the bridge and take it home or demolish it completely so that nobody will have what they don't have.

Yar'Adua should not dialogue with those bunch of clowns. The third mainland bridge is old enough sef. Instead of the silly boys to be MENDing Things, they are DESTROYing. They need to rebrand.

We should stop flirting with the idea that this is a threat that can be ignored. These TERRORISTS are inhumane and can spring surprises on a Nation that is never prepared for anyhting. I think these MEND or whatever they call themselves should be treated as Foreign aggressors and eliminated likewise. They have long past the stage of freedom fighting, rather they have since been involved in unpatriotic and evil activities

God Punish them

@ denex

I agree with you.
To me. this is just an empty threat. What has Lagos & 3rd mainland bridge got to do with the emancipation of the Niger-Delta. They should go to Abuja and blow a few things up if they claim to have the skills, know-how and the guts to do that.
Like MKO said, you cannot be running forward and be looking backwards, ( you'll fall flat on your face)

They need to look for better ways of getting attention. Not our 3rd M bridge.

@bibiking1

I have stated that a long time ago. Total wiping out. But like I told you before, these boys are not working alone. They have foreign spies working with them.like those who have been making videos all over the place, including Lagos.

Very soon, MEND will demand the immediate release of Mrs Asuni.
