Intelligence is a learned behaviour, what makes us different from others is the speed with which our brains adapt to newly acquired knowledge. This calls to mind the nature vs nurture issue.Intelligence is partly inherited and partly the product of our environment. "the speed with which our brains adapt to newly acquired knowledge." depends on our innate intelligence and this type of intelligence is not learned behaviour. I don't know what you mean but like I have been saying all along, book smarts has little to do with intelligence. Intelligence is not about being able to reharsh what you read , know , it is about being able to apply what you know to improve your life/situation. "Book smartness" has a lot to do with intelligence.Studies show that the higher a person's IQ,the more likely he is going to be academically successful. Being book smart is often,not always,an indication of intelligence. Take for instance Africa, as a whole we have so many people in that continent who are excellent in their fields as well. Go anywhere in the world and you will find african's who excell in their fields but has that knowledge been applied in africa?? Africa is the least educated continent on the planet.Those Africans who excel are exceptions to the rule.Yes, there are some Nigerians who have excelled in the West but lets not pretend they represent the average Nigerian. |

the comparison is between the quality of US graduates and Indian or chinese graduates. Hardly anything to suggest there are more book smarts in india than china.
Would Latinos be less intelligent than blacks since we do better than them anyway?
Well I think trying to include Latinos as a group in this discussion is a little difficult because anyone can be a Latino. There are White, Black, Native American, Native American and White mix, and Black and White mix. There are Latinos that are White like Andy Garcia, then someone more Native American like George Lopez, and a Black one like the baseball player David Ortiz. So based on this guys idea he would place each one into a racial group and probably only count the mix ones as Latino. |

Show me how the ratio of 4.0's we have running things in the world today then if you really believe that has so much to do with living today?? Here is the funny thing about intelligence, Most of the people we have today in the world who run things are some of the least BOOK smart people we know. Even persons like the dude who owns COSCO who has been deemed one of the best CEO's ever confessed he had trouble when it came to passing in school. We are talking of the real world here and dealing with issues in the real world. Again, What has book Smarts to do with Napolean? Or the Zulu's intelligence in defeating their enemies?? or the current situation in Africa today??
For your second claim there, each year, 100's of thousands of Africans get educated Abroad in some of the best universities in the world. Infact every where you go on this planet, you are bound to find at least one african. Do you really think that CLAIMING that africa is the least educated continent is excuse enough for the current situation in the globe?? By that claim you are invariably saying that Africans are less intelligent bookwise, which I do not believe to be the case at all. and which I believe is not what Watson is even alluding to. The average african in the west is almost on the same level with the average caucasian. We have them plenty here. We have a lot of high school drop outs here too. We have a lot of hill billies here, we have a lot of trailer trash people here, we have a lot of rednecks here too, read about them, they happen to be a lot in number and even they do a good job when it comes to interacting with their environment. You are bound to meat a lot of uneducated americans who happen to run really good businesses and are smart even if they are not book smart. So this is life, please leave the book smarts to the discussions that have to do with them and let us focus on what Watson really was speaking of.
Even Educated Nigerians sometimes live like trailer trash. I have seen them, amazed me, but what can I do

do you think the Zulu's didn't have their own ways of calculating and figuring out War strategies? Book smarts proves that you can think and calculate. Ask the CEO you mentioned how many drop-outs or people with very basic training he employs in his company (Particularly the arm that deals with new innovations). This CEO was in school studying "I.T. Stuff" when he should have been Studying business Admin. Why wouldn't he have problems.
There in a popular saying that goes thus; intelligence is knowing what to do, wisdom is doing it. The greek origin of the word itself has to do with KNOWING/UNDERSTANDING. not actually DOING.

Exactly, that is why China decided to get into Africa, I am sure. They see us as weaklings that need to be helped and so the chinese government has opened the door to africa so they can bring in all they can while their own country makes as much as they can from us. Take a trip to china and see how many Africans/blacks you will find out there. Do they consider us people they really want to "MINGLE" with past the business level?? Try to get a job in China as a teacher and see. |
