Is Joost The Next Big Thing?
« on: October 19, 2007, 11:19 AM »

Joost is a system for distributing TV content and other forms of video over the Internet. Joost is the pet project of Zennström and Friis who were co-owners of Skype. Friis and Zennström received part of a $2.6 billion cash payment when eBay bought over Skype in 2005. Joost began development in 2006. The development team comprised of about 150 software engineers from around the world. Most of the development and marketing costs were most probably taken care of by the windfall.

The project is currently undergoing beta-testing and has already drawn close to a million users. There are currently 1500 TV shows and 250 channels on the Joost Site and still growing.

With all these developments and many more expected to unfold, one might ask: What is the implication on the entertainment and the advert arena?

You can visit the Joost site for a feel of what it's all about

Hey @ pain,
Joost seems like a kool idea , but they'd need to be weary of competition.
guys like;
jump tv
narrowstep
playout
view tv
bt

,  and the like are all working very hard to tap into the iptv market, even though not all of em do the same thing i believe its just the beginning.
The staff ' joost shouldnt be comfortable just yet because when the owners find out what tyme it is they just might sell it off.
as i speak there are loads of initiatives , expos, seminars, workshops, courses going down in London with reagrds to streaming videos, tv , over the internet, and trust me bruv, its major.

young guys are investing their last dime in the industry because the bigger picture will unfold anytime soon.

Joost is kool but when tyme reach them go hala

Nothing has changed: content is king and sponsorship is cash in the bank. Wink

@Seun, that is so cliche.

if you know what u are doing u will make a kill selling crap to your niche market.

imagine people subscribing in ther thousands to watch ltv, galaxy tv and mitv online.

do you consider that content. i'd rather watch a blank screen.

lol

Are people subscribing in their thousands to watch Galaxy TV online?  If so, the content is news.
