Home-made Helicopters Hit Northern Nigeria
« on: October 22, 2007, 02:26 PM »

Let's celebrate this Nigerian and Nigeria!

This link (http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/nigeriahelicopteroffbeat) features the news about a Nigerian undergraduate who has made a helicopter that actually flies.  I am ecstatic.  This is the kind of news we want to hear about and promote, not the money-gobbling idiots that litter the National Assembly and most of the Goverment houses.

Please read and be happy that Nigeria has a future in the likes of this guy, Mubarak Muhammad Abdullahi.

Cheers!

afangide,

I think he deserves more than that  Tongue

I now expect the FG and/or private companies to fully fund research necessary to manufacture even better models and/or to send this guy to the best schools where can sharpen his talent.  If the guy were in the US, sharp sharp, companies would be at his doorsteps doing everything to woo him.

Remember ANAMCO buses?  Remember the annual JETS fairs in uyo where students were brought in to showcase their inventions?  Remember when there was a solar-powered traffic light at Ikot-Ekpene/Ikpan road junction?  Where are they now?  Gone with the wind.  Why?  Because, unlike in some other countries, we don't do a good job of spotting/nurturing our talent.  The result? Such people eventually leave for "greener pastures" with the end-result in some cases being they end up doing odd jobs, thus wasting all that talent.

As always, my 2 cents.
