But there is this unfound rumour that those against Etteh her doing that because of their personal beef with the ruling party, or because of in house betrayal.
Well it's our prayer that the enemies of progress in Nigeria wold continue to fight themselves and exposes their EVIL ways.

At last she Resigned!!! Victory at Last.
My problem is that the real crime wasn't represented to the people by the dailies. The media actually failed.
The crime committed by Etteh was this: " lack of Due Process in the award of Contract"
What the Media painted was this " Etteh Stole N628Million"
First of all we Should know that the only money given for that contract was the N50million take off grant. So the house could have revoked the contract if they found out it was inflated. So there was no legality, for the media to keep addressing her as a theif , when the N628milion is in safe custody of the Federal government. The impression they gave the public was totally wrong and unacceptable if we are to be honest with ourselves. People like Balogun , Alams and co were called theives because they actually, illegally withdrew money that was meant for the public and converted it for there personal use.
I am not in Support of Etteh, but the media should have represented the crime the way it was. Okadigbo was not painted that way (thief) by the media, even though it was the same offence. Well, he smart to resign early.
Secondly, if "due process" was crime, why is that those clamouring for removal didn't want to follow "Due process". That us shows us that something is wrong somewhere. The house itself needs to be sanitize.
See between the lines, Is not just about Ettehgate, it is more than that. Let me hold my breath!!
There are lot of contracts in this country which were actually inflated and did not follow due process. Check it out, in every government ministry, there is one or two like that.
My point is this;Nigeria has suffered setbacks due to personal sentiments and tribalism. This has to be corrected at all levels. We should say things and do things the way they ought to be.Not only when they favour us. The Media Should learn to present things as they are, not just because they want to make money but because they want to get people rightly informed. Let them Say good things About Nigeria.
Nigeria is a great country and I am happy to be a Nigerian Congratulations to All Nairalanders. Our voice was heard, and Etteh finally bowed to it. Cheer!!

@Pk001 blaming the media on issues of reporting controversial issues of national interest is a well played out script and has been futile in the past. a lot of the nigerian media outfits are bias in their reports (higher bidder, sentiments and things like that), and quite a handful fall of the reports in this current case are of standards that are more or less shameful,
the truth of the matter is madam speaker was poorly advised in the first instance, which could have links to a lot of conspiracies in the house. not being smart enough to weigh the options let alone think of the bigger picture - the nigerian populace she swore to serve in the first place, made her unfit for the job.
i'm sorry but she's wasted useful time trying to undo the damage of the much acclaimed due process, only to find out in the end that it hurts real bad. another moral lesson learnt.

Media did not portray Etteh as a thief, but she allowed herself to be mobbed and made mockery of. She broke the house rules and did not want to be investigated. Okadigbo stepped aside and went to a public hearing which was aired on national TV to defend himself, but Etteh chose not to do so. By the way, intent to commit a crime is treated as crime itself. So illegally awarding a contract without due process is a crime, not until the funds are transfered to contractors.
Etteh is not worthy to be a speaker, she is a political jobber with no academic degree. She is just a hairdresser and beautician who rose to power by default.

@chi-nne misappropriation of funds due to one's virtue of position is as bad as stealing in that the subject in this case the common nigerian is plunged deep into his misery. in my opinion taking solace in the fact that she must have benefited from the entire episode shouldn't be encouraged in whatever shape or form. what has become of madam speaker is a clear warning to poachers of the nation's treasury that when such issues come out into the watchful eyes of the public, the end result of a place in the hall or wall of shame (whichever the case maybe) is inevitable.

The way I see it, I am not sure if she is guilty or not but I do know that she did not steal as much as people like Abacha did and so I wait to see the evidence against her and all to conclude.
But She has stepped down, now what?? Do we get the money BACK?? or Do we continue to claim she stole it and that be it?? What about the money the other's have stolen from us during the time they spent doing nothing but fighting and calling her a thief?? Do we get that money back??? or do we just forget that one?? I am sorry, but I am all for them actually explaining to me how the people's money is spent all the way, not make accusations and we never get to see where the money and all of it, by the way, has gone and is going.

Whether she is guilty or not will be figured out by the appropriate authorities.
But for those teaching us new english as in difference between "due process" and "stealing".
let us come down to ordinary terms: If Mr A and Mr B are neighbours. Mr A has goat and Mr B does not, if eventually Mr B plans to eat Mr A's goat and goes to plead with Mr. A who eventually grants him permission to eat it. It can be said that Mr. B followed due process in trying to eat the goat. But a situation where Mr B eat's the goat behind Mr. A's back, without seeking permision nor even informing Mr A in retrospect until another neighbour who saw him raised alarm; it can be said that due process has not been followed. Anyone who says they don't know whether the second scenario which lacks due process amounts to stealing is simply living in self delusion.
Hence depending on the situation lack of due process might mean stealing and Etteh's situation if proven to be true is a typical example.

I have no idea what the heck that you just posted up there has to do with anything. It still remains that considering the evidence, I can not say on my own if she is innocent or guilty and will choose to refrain from pointing accusing fingers at her since I do not have enough evidence to do such at this time. PERIOD!! If you have a hard time understanding what that means, that is your problem but your whole goat analogy there made absolutely no sense to me when it comes to the subject at hand. Simple!!

NGN628 million!!!!!!
Those who preceded her have take their own, due process means dropping something for those in the other office like Budget, Finance, Maintenance etc.
In the first, renovating two building for NGN628 million. How much is a new one?
Because she cut some departments (Minstries) off to have more cash in her purse.
This Department were crying foul games and her begging Nigerians to help them with Crocodile tear to femove her from office.
Their complain is not the money collected but she did not give them their share based on due process.
I wonder why we let them carried us along in calling for her head.
Obasanjo said House will solve their problem it is not the Presidency or any other body that we help. He is right, he knows they were fighting for their pocket, not for the masses.
What they should fight for is how to bring the money down or stop allocating the said sum.
Rather they were fight for due process wherein what should reach them is not getting to them.
If Nigerians want to punished them, LET ETTEH BE!!! There is more you will see, put their kind and you will not hear of such again.
You can see why the my LADY is not ready to leave the seat in the first place.
SHE understand what they want. The issue should not be made public but knowing the kind of people the masses is, thay were shedding Crocodile tear to win our support.
They are worst than her. LET ETTEH BE!!!!!!!

The question of leadership in Nigeria nay Africa should be of concern to all of us. If peole like Etteh can ever be presented to Nigerians as their speaker (of the House of Rep). One can only wonder, we may thenhave every reason to know the qualities her successor may likely have. We must not forget (in all this)that was the same PDP "Inner wheel " that get Etteh to were she was, then she would have been the "best", if Etteh"PDP`s best " is a ciper, an aversion and possibly a featherbrain, I think there is every reason for us to grouse. The leadership of the PDP is about this time exalting someone! I mean no disrespect to the incoming Honouable Speaker but Leadership- the PDP way!
God Bless Nigeria!

Friends, Etteh must have bowed out obviously not to save a whiffet people choose to call her image nor was it for her intergrity which she has proven beyond doubt to be wanting.
Nigerians should look beyond the resignisation- it was meant to stop the probe into the contract. I pray Our Honourables and ultimately the Nigerian people to think before the probe into Idoko panel report throw away via the back door. She maybe protecting a Bigger person!! God Bless Nigeria!

I hail the Nigerian press for their immense contribution to bringing to end the "Ettehgate crisis". I say bravo to them just like they stood staunchly opposed to the hydra-headed Animal called Man-Olusegun Obasanjo and his "Third Term Project". They have proven to be the mouthpiece of Nigerians against anything evil and satanic. Keep up the good works. Continue to expose corruption, mediocrity and maladministration for us, that way we know who the enemies of Nigeria are, More are still to be done, Aoodonka must work for the people or go, Ibori, Odili, Dariye et al must be brought to book, Governors selected via fraud and intimidation must vacate their offices etc, the list goes on,
For those who say we should leave Etteh, Yes, we will leave her. In our minds, she has entered the list of black book of people caught defrauding and raping Nigeria, she joins the clique of Abacha, Alams, Tafa Balogun, Wabara et al. if someone can appropriate such a heck sum of money as $5million or 695NGN for the sole purpose of changing electric bulb, fittings, painting and buying 12 cars amounts to nothing other than the biggest scam ever- an epitome of embezzelment never seen before. To request 100NGN for a body massage equipment in the midst of poor infrastructure and immense poverty among the citizenry speaks of her personality- a greedy selfish criminal who refused to resign even when shame was splattered all over her face!
To EFCC, ICPC et al, we are waiting for the verdict on Wabara, Osuji among others. Also Etteh, Nguroje and all others should join the list after investigation. Please also remember that a stadium in Abuja sits at the cost of more than a $1billion. I wonder what kind of stadium cost that much to build- please go after all those involved. Probity and accountability must be the watchwords and dictum of Nigerian politicians henceforth!

Etteh returns to House after resignation
Twenty four hours after quitting office as the speaker of the House of Representatives, Mrs Patricia Olubunmi Etteh threw away the shame of forced resignation by quietly walking into the hallowed chamber to join her colleagues in the business of the House.
Etteh who came at about 1.50pm well ahead of most members wore a subdued mien and went straight to the floor and sat in the front row where she exchanged pleasantries with few of her supporters. When the Speaker ex-tempore, Hon Terngu Tsegba entered the chamber 40 minutes later, she stood up like other members in deference to the office she was forced to vacate the previous day.
Although, she was not visibly hostile to her colleagues, she shunned Hon Habeeb Fashinro, a member of the Idoko panel whose report nailed the former speaker. She participated in the closed door session and the committee of the whole that considered the Idoko report.
After the sitting, she walked briskly and nodded in to greetings from some members and staff that waved to her. Some of her personal staff including the Chief of Staff, Hon Lanre Laoshe, were sighted in the speaker’s office, hours after Mrs Etteh had left the House.

Sentiments and emotions aside, let talk legal jargon. In law, intentions is construed as doing the act itself. A person can be convicted for intentions or aquited for lack of intentions in commiting an act.
This brings us to Patricia Etteh-does she have the intentions to commit a malfeasance? In others words, did she demonstrate the intention to steal aand defraud the nation?
Answer to both questions is affirmative. 1. The meeting of NASS leaders which awarded the conttracts, was convened in secrecy, without the invations of any disenting principals. 2. Due process not clearly not followed. 3. The contracts awarded exhorbitant and to mediocre or non-existent entities. 4. Need was not demostrated, nor accounted for. 5 When it came time to let everyone know about the intricacies of the whole affair, she played hide and seek, delaying investigations.
The investigation ad-hoc commitee, indicted her on ten counts. Even if the money was not already in her coffers, it would be ultimately be stole after the sham contracts have been deemed completed.
Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, based on the foregoing, I dare say a clear and unambiguous intention was demonstarted to defraud the NASS and the nation of Nigeria and I declared her guilty as charged.
She be propa ole, barao, tief, jaguda, pali. them for comot her patapata for the place sef. She is definitely out of her comfort zone in the House. If it had not been for the OTTA big thief, she would not have been a member in the first place.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
