yeah it is. quite easily if u use firefox. u'll have to install an add-on for firefox called download helper. once uve done that, u load up the flash video u want right click on the screen (not on the video). u should see the file.

Conversion from flv will only reduce the quality with no benefit.  Just download an flv player.

Naaa. . . Seun, conversion dosnt reduce quality. .
Unless the person converting is crazy Tongue, oops! sorry Grin, I mean - if u convert from .flv to .mpg 0! The vid is still ok.
But u cant imagine converting from .flv to .vob expecting to get DVD Quality. .

The thing about lossy compression is that you lose a little more each time you recompress.

@poster

you can download the youtube videos directly from youtube without any software simply taking off the "http://www.youtube"  from the video link and replacing it with "kissyoutube" (i.e http://youtube.com/whatevervideo12d? and replace with kissyoutube.com/whatevervideo12d?) it'll download in .flv file like everyone has said here.

Notwithstanding, you can download "Media Player Classic" it plays virtual all media format and its good cos its got nice codecs.

Hope you find this tip helpful.

If you use Firefox there's a great little plug-in called "Fast Video Download 1.3" that works well.
Puts a button on your toolbar that you just click to download video while or immediately after watching.
It works at YouTube and most video sites I've seen.

By far the best option is to go to http://www.vixy.net
Enter the URL of the video you wanna download and it allows you to choose your download format

i.e Mp4 for ipod and PSP
AVI
even Mp3 to rip audio alone from videos.

Mr admin the professor. . . compression algorithms aint stupid. You get to choose your bitrate sir.

'recompression' occurs only when the bitrate you specify is lower than that of the source video. . . youtube videos are encoded at low bitrates.

Re: Youtube Videos
« #22 on: November 19, 2007, 06:16 PM »

That doesn't matter.  Even if you recompress over and over again at the same bitrate, you'll lose some information.
Even DV, a so-called "almost lossless" codec, shows degradation when you recompress over and over again.
The smartest thing is to keep the video in its original form unless you need to make it smaller.

a do-it-yourself example

MP3 is a lossy compression algorithm isnt it?

Ok. Rip a song from a CD at 128kbps. Convert the song to 96kbps. listen to both, the diference is really obvious. (good speakers / headphones).

Now, take the 128kbps file, and keep on converting it to 128kbps over and over again.

Listen to it after the 10th cycle. . . is there a noticeable difference compared to the original  Huh

Hmmm. why not just try the experiment with videos, since that's what we're talking about? Huh

@seun
the position of the p and i images that make up a video in MPEG format depends on the specified bitrate.

You can download youtube videos using www.keepvid.com.  You can convert your flv videos to avi using a program called "flv extractor".   You can read the avi files by using a program called "Media Player Classic".  Good luck!
