hi,
how do i criticize a novel. I need the procedures. This was given to me as an asignment. I read the novel already but I will need a kind of format. Is it like a book review or an essay.
Thanks

what they asked you people to do is more like a peer review paper whereby you review/critcize your classmates essay and give him/her the honour where it is due and in some parts, say what you thin is wrong and give ur own opinion, like oh, the introduction.thesis statement isn't clear on what he/she wants to argue or answer,
I hope this helps or ask ur prof.

Fortunately, that's my specialty. You'll need to summarise the storyline without giving too much away. You're also giving your opinion so unlike a summary, you have to show some feeling.
What particularly endeared you to the author, how do you like his style [eg wit, satire, humor etc etc] and so on. You can analyse how convincing the author was etc etc. In the end, everything depends on you but I've given you some ideas.
Hope this helps.

You could begin with a little biographical information on the author, then the plot i.e,the way incidents and events in the novel are ordered. That should be brief and then you talk about the setting of the story, look at themes,i.e the central ideas raised in the novel. You look at the style the author uses in characterization, language, dramatic and narrative techniques, plot structure. You then consider the success and/or failure of the novel. In terms of whether the author was successful in portraying the themes, using the techniques he used.
