omoge02863, in addition to the help I've received from the posts above, let me throw in my two mites. How am I sure that I'm a Christian? I believed the Gospel - (Mark 16:16). . . I repented of my sins - (Acts 3:19). . . and, I received Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour - (John 1:12 and 6:69). . . then the Holy Spirit bears witness in my spirit that I'm a child of God (Rom. 8:16). Do true Christians make mistakes that are sinful? Yes, we do - but we have an advocate with the Father; by confessing and repenting, never to go back to our sins, we receive forgiveness and cleansing (I John 1:8 - 2:1). Should we keep on sinning? - What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? (Rom. 6:1-2). What then? Ask God for help - He is able to provide the needed help (I Cor. 10:13). You have made a very sensible choice to do more research. The Holy Spirit is the best Teacher who enlightens our hearts with the Word of God. I guarantee you He will not disappoint you, and I'm one of those who'll be praying for you

a true christian is the christian who believes in god only within himself. u don't have to go to church or pray to be a christian. if u believe in god within yourself i reckon you are a true christian.

Fascinating. Then what is the meaning of these scriptures:
The Church:
Matt. 16:18 - "And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it." (This is Jesus speaking).
Act 2:47 - "Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved."
Eph 5:25 - "Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it"
Priesthood of Believers:
1 Pet. 2:5 - "Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ."
1 Pet. 2:9 - "But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light"
Rev. 1:6 - "And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen."
You may not believe in the church or the priesthood of believers. As long as these matters are in the Bible, I will not let anyone's unbelief cheat me out of them. God called believers into the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ - and that fellowship is expressed when we meet in Jesus' name: "For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them." (Matt.18:20).
The mark of true discipleship is obedience to ALL that Jesus taught, and that includes matters of the church and the priesthood of believers: "Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen." (Matt. 28:20).

you are quoting frm a book also made by man  . plus, you have to read between the lines what this book is supposed to say. anyway, i'm charmed with your arguments. also remember that the book you are quoting from is full of mistakes. if you care for an example, i'll give u one. very interesting conversation. u must be very religious. |

First you attempted to define who a true christian is based on your fallible reckoning; now you're attempting to cook up an argument on 'a book full of mistakes.' My dear, just don't even try to confuse yourself any further. Did you read and understand the topic or you need some schooling about it? Anyone could believe in 'god' without necessarily being a Christian. As you can see, this is about identifying who a true Christian is. If you're seeking an argument based on that weathered and worn topic ferreted from skeptic/agnostic/atheistic websites, don't bother - kindly open a new thread and post all the trash you want and I'll meet you there. You could also state your own ideas about the 'god' you believe in.

you are somehow right. if i don't agree with churches and priests, how can i know what a christian is? sure. i'm not a christian. i don't know what a christian is supposed to be like. i just believe in god. what god? read your big book, maybe it will tell you how many gods there are. also i see no topic here. u want to be a true christian, read the book. anything else is beleiving. you are good, you believe. by the way, i am 100 % original. i don't share other people ideas with you. that would be boring for me and for you. u were right anyway. i don't belong in this topic. don't have a clue what being a good christian means. thanks for sharing your opinion with me.

Jesus Christ put it in one word, and that is love. This is the agape type of love. Exodus 20:1-17; Matt.5:17-48 Jesus gave the proper interpretation of this type of love and this includes the love of our perceived enemies (those who persecute us) Matt.5:44- 48; That husbands love their wives as Christ loved the church and gave Himself for it. Eph.5:25, and wives submit to their husbands as unto the Lord. Eph.5:22. Fake preachers and their followers find it impossible to imitate or counterfeit this kind of love. This is how we can identify true Christians "by their fruit you shall know them." This is why we must accept the love of God that was revealed to us in that God the Father sent God the Son into the world that we might live through Him as He has paid for our sins 1John4:9-10; John 3:16. |

How about the whole idea that 'by their fruits ye shall know them'. Afterall this is the criteria that Jesus himself laid down for christians. Good tree can not bear evil fruit and vice versa. Judging by this criteria I maintain the opinion that I have yet to meet a christian in spite of the clamour of claims.
