Gani Adams, Uwazuruike Hold Talks

Two leaders of ethnic self determination groups, Otunba Gani Adams of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) and Dr. Ralph Uwazuruike of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), this morning met at the Abule Ado, Lagos residence of the former, on the way forward.

Welcoming his guest, Otunba Adams expressed happiness at seeing Uwazuruike, who he described as “my brother and co-traveller, a great and determined warrior and leader of men”.

Otunba Adams used the visit of the MASSOB leader to thank activists who in one way or the other contributed “to our eventual release”.

“Special mention must be made of the courageous men and women who in the face of great threats and great risk to their lives and safety, launched and subtained an aggressive campaign (both locally and internationally) for our release.

“Comrade Ayodele Akele is the leader of this group of brave and daring individuals who began their intervention under the banner of Free Otunba Gani Adams Campaign Committee (FOGAC) before metarmophosing into the Coalition for the Freedom of Dokubo and Uwazuruike (CORDU)”, he stated.

He called on the federal government to stop attacking self determination groups and their leaders, stressing that the government was fighting a lost and unnecessary battle by doing so.

Otunba Adams emphathised with MASSOB and Uwazuruike, saying that Igbo people were yet to be fully reintegrated into the Nigerian nation. “People still view the average Igbo man with distrust and suspicion,” he added.

He, however, maintained that dialogue remains the key instrument of diplomacy. “We need to realise and respect the rights of every individual and group if we are to avoid the kind of problems of the past”, he submitted.
