The Nigeria Entertainment Awards "nea" Makes History In America
« #15 on: May 09, 2006, 07:43 PM »

Emeka Enyiocha and other popular Nollywood stars with P-Square and other celebrated Nigerian achievers in the entertainment industry have been nominated for the Nigerian Entertainment Awards (NEA) coming up in June in Maryland, USA.

I had a telephone conversation with Joy Tongo, the President of NEA on Tuesday May 9 and she confirmed the notable nominees and the laudable goals and objectives of the NEA.

The Nigeria Entertainment Awards "NEA" is celebrating the achievement of Nigerians and Africans at large. This decade has proven the significance of African contribution to the world of entertainment. African Actors and Actresses have singled handedly changed the way entertainment performances are done, the pure art of culture has transcended from the Black communities to every household in America. Needless to say, television, radio and print media has embraced the culture and impact of African entertainers and incorporated the effect into their industry. NEA will be showcasing the great impact African entertainers have in the lives of Africans both in Africa and in America.

Entertainment is constantly evolving. It is tied to no particular platform, format or place in time, but shaped by the visionaries, innovators, entrepreneurs and brand developers who embrace the art form, look to the future and inspire creativity. As a result, new ideas and art forms are brought to life.

The Nigeria Entertainment Awards® honor this vision, along with innovation, entrepreneurship and brand development in the entertainment industry. With awards in multiple categories honoring achievements involving promotions, music, advertising, film, television and video, we are pleased recognizes the cutting-edge developments and forward thinkers shaping the future of entertainment.

The mission of the NEA is:

 To establish favorable relations and cultural ties between nigerians and foreign nationalities by the dissemination of information concerning the Nigerian culture and traditions as depicted in motion pictures, television, music, and all other forms of media in various foreign countries;
 To recognize outstanding achievements by conferring annual Awards of Merit, (Nigeria Entertainment Awards®), serving as a constant incentive within the nigerian oriented entertainment industry, both domestic and foreign, and to focus wide public attention upon the best in the entertainment industry;
 To contribute to other nonprofit organizations connected with the entertainment industry and involved in educational, cultural, and humanitarian activities;
 To promote interest in the study of the arts, including the development of talent in the entertainment field through the showcasing present talent and their achievements as role models for the industry.

One of  the Nominees confirmed that the organizers couldn't put their acts together and there is a scandalous angle to it about getting Visa at the US Embassy and there was allegations of bribery. The nominees were asked to contribute about N150,000 per person. And they declined.

The organizers wanted to promote our Arts and Culture. But, they must have had some problems. They should be capable of solving their problems.

You can ask Joy Tongo the President of the NEAs.

She has just e-mailed me that I should call her to discuss on phone.

The Nigerian Entertainment Awards (NEA) took place and Desmond Elliot won the award for the best Nigerian actor. The details were published in the Life magazine of The Guardian newspaper of Nigeria and you can see the NEA website for more information.

There was a misunderstanding in communication. But Joy Tongo resolved it.

We can move on to greater and higher things.
