Does A Nigerian Welfare System Exist For Deserving Families?
« on: November 06, 2007, 08:28 AM »

In the US., there is a welfare system that is established to help families financially while they get back on their feet.  If they have lost a job, or financially unable to pay their bills, they can get help with food stamps, a monthly check for bills, and may qualify for low income housing.  Different states also offer free medical and dental to qualifying low income families.  There are some people that ride the system for years on end, and don't even try to help themselves to become gainfully self sufficient, but everybody doesn't.

I would like to know, what type of welfare system is established in Nigeria for families that are in need of assistance? Are there any outreach programs in different communities?

I am working on it, so that I can implement it when I finally become the President and
commander-in- chief of the Armed Forces.

Seriously darling, those thing called social security or welfare system is only in our dreams and it is not part of our agenda for another 20-50 years, but who knows pigs may fly. I heard that the govt set up some organisation to look into it.

But, Nigeria have the most wonderful family support system, you could practically go to any of your family member for your smallneeds like food etc which you hardly get in the west. The only time you get to see some of this family member in the US or Europe is during christmas or thanksgiving period. In Nigeria 24/7

The answer to your question in a nutshell is NO, Nigeria does not have a welfare system at present. But look out for this space once I become the President, I will be printing more monies and we all going to have party with 'uncle sams'  or in this case 'uncle wazobia'money

When you find me your African King and marry me then I will make you the secretary of state for Social security, you will organise Social security numbers for everybody and give them monies if they are out of jobs. Only that you have to promise me that you wouldn't turn to HRC in wrecking the social security department like she did with Health care and that in 8 years down the road you will not be looking forward to be President like me. I will promise you in return than I wouldn't do a Lewinski on you. Grin Grin Grin Grin

Its really sad cause Nigeria could afford to give out welfare for deserving people and Lord knows there are loads of deserving families.

God knows it would cut out a lot of crime and unnecesities in that nation if a welfare sysytem is there.

@adeboo,

I am sorry darling to disappoint you.

If we have a welfare system the way Our country is organised, then you will have people in government and even ordinary people who will  abuse it and in any event it will never get to people that it is meant for. ( It will actually increase crime surprisingly)

Social security anywhere including US and Europe is bare necessities but we have shown that we incapable of managing things.

Some people in the Uk and Ireland for example , not only our own people but mostly are known (allegedly)  to have collected 2, 3 or more times.

Maybe one day we would become our brothers keepers.

Nice thought though and may God help us.
