@Moodylady,

Because if you are local, you wouldn't know that buying a flower is just the thought behind it.

I can see you don't know the meaning of buying a flower to love ones.  Therefore, you are local, simple.

Moodylady, EVERYONE in Nigeria knows flowers=romance. You do not need to travel on a 'free visa' to the US to know that.

The bloke is right. Maybe you ARE local.

The way you reason is very primitive.

I wouldn't choose flowers but when I am given I have learnt to appreciate it especially when sent properly for with the right purpose and meaning. Apart from that if you must send flowers please try edible ones!

Guys on a serious note you don't expect us to get emotional and shed tears over flowers? Try something else.

exactly nana. these chicks that would prefer top-up credit?! sorry, if you need to beg for credit you are well below the level for dating a normal guy. flowers are (relatively) expensive, they don't last long - it's a purely romantic gesture, no materialism involved. if you can't see beyond perfume / being dashed money, what kind of mate are you likely to attract??

I didn't know we got chicken on this thread, rubbish

Can you clearly show us, were someone stated they prefer material things to flowers

Why are you making unnecessary over this flower thing Huh Undecided, do you guys have any idea what a "forum" is, because i don't think you do.

People are stating their opinions but you guys are getting worked up just because majority of females does not like flowers

Or is it by force, because I don't understand the fuss about this whole flower thing.

Flower ko Flower ni, if am so desperate about flower why don't i go to the nearest tree around my house to get one

Flowers!!! Although u get people who do appreciate them, and its d easiest thing 2 send when you're out of ideas of what 2 send as a gift.  Personally i prefer sendin fthem 2 someone than receivin it because i don't really feel them Sad i rather 1 gets me a nice card 4 watever occasion @ that pointbecause due to d wordins in a card it does require some time 2 b read. so if 1 gets me a card i know that some time was spent in readin d wordins Wink Grin

Romance doesn't mean buying gift to for your ladies, but you can start show it in another different kind of way by appreciating her, take a walk with her, talk about life, your feelings, go to jazz club, poetry reading, stay indoor during weekend by watching his/her choice or movie(once a week should do) e.t.c.
You can go to a public feild that has a grass or sit on the lawn outside your house, by laying a blanket on the grass, play games (board, card e.ct) , listen to music, talk and talk, you don't need money to so all theses

Gbam! Gbam! Jacob!

Nothing more to add oh! Yes-sentiments are attached to "flowers".  But we did not grow up with that type of mentality in Nigeria.  You must know what your "partner" appreciates so you do not waste your money or get your feelings hurt unnecesarily.  Some guys do not even understand that every "flower" has a meaning.  So sending the wrong kind might just show how "local" you are.  Know your partner and find out what he or she likes.

Money all at way or a "blank check" will surfice.  No long talk abeg!  Flowers full for my compound!

You better lay that golden egg.  Your mates are buying brand new cars for "Ekpoma" campus girlfriends and building mansions in posh locations in Nigeria and you are here talking about flowers?  Just to be cheap.  I know already the guy's thoughts about me so no need to repeat himself and beat about the "flowery bush".

Let us just cut through the chase and get us some expensive jewelry, or something we will never forget you guys for.  Not something that would definitely end up in the thrash within 10 minutes. Save them for the old people in the villages that are still trying to "maintain" their sense of smell please.

on a serious note, it's v easy to spot the type of relationship it's going to be when you first meet a girl,  and the ones you buy perfume / gucci slippers for are rarely the ones you are interested in long term. if a guy starts buying you flowers and sending you poetry (yuk) he's actually probably really dgging you, and wanting to manage your expectations long term. if you're going to be together next month, what comes next after gucci, ? whereas the "little things" are cheap and sustainable long term
