You just called a Black person a gorilla, and your probably Black yourself.  Go figure.  Internalized oppression is an ugly thing indeed.  I don't have anything against East Africans b/c I don't care either way about them.  The only time I hear of East Africa is when World Vision or Feed the Children asks tv viewers to donate money to feed hungry Somali or Ethiopian children. 

Remember, while you may have stereotypes or hateful feelings about West Africans, there are many many people who have similar sentiments about East Africans.  NO ONE IS EXEMPT FROM BEING HATED OR PUT DOWN. 

Black is beautiful

Thing about us West Africans is that we have always allowed foreigners to define our standards of beauty. We have always prefered light skinned people to darker ones. If we were to be asked who is the most beautiful of Africa we would most likely say Ethiopia rather than Sudan purely on the basis that Ethiopians are lighter than Sudanese. We have a lot of light skinned people in West Africa as it turns out, don't know if that is due to admixture or it has just always been the case. We tend to bleach more than any other part of Africa as I have heard.

No they are not. They just happen to have arab/white people kind of features with their noses or chin. Hardly light skinned. Liya isnt light skinned.

There are plenty of Igbo females who are naturally light skinned compared to most East Africans.

True,  but it is the Arab features that make them stand out. They are not caucasian features because the Arab nose has a general hook compared to the slim straightness of the European,  this is just a case of divide and conquer. Wonder why western africa has such a bad rep these days.

I agree with So What. It is the features that maketh the person not necessarily the skin tone. But I don't think I will be ashamed of being yellow because some one says it means I'm not really black,  please.

But really these East African versus West African threads are getting old now. Ugandans, Kenyans majority ugly you know that as well as I do, Ethiopians/Somalis represent a small part of a big region blah blah. To make the point even further Somalis are usually darker skinned than Ethiopians. Are they more 'black' then than Ethiopians?

I'm tall, dark and strikingly handsome. Here's a man that's confident about his looks. It doesn't matter what anyone says. I've got my fair share of admirers.
No one should feel funny about his/her complexion.

I'm currently in the UAE. Dubai is a beautiful city far beyond what you see in the west. Nigerians who come here are so bitter and full of hate for their govt. When you say 'dude! youve been to yankee (the USA) before! Why didnt you complain then?' they will say 'You know they are whites there. We can't compete. But these arabs are not better than us! look what they are achieving!"

Just makes you shake your head.  I'm currently working with a white consultant. Anytime I want anything to be accepted by my superiors, I just pass it through him! They accept without question! If I or the arab guy (same company, same rank as the white guy) suggest the same thing, buh.

Dark skin for sure, thats my stand, anytime anyday. In all other lives I'll love to come as a Black person.

It is of course absurd that people depict Jesus as a white man that looks like Obi-Wan Kenobi from star wars when he was obviously an arab-lookalike hebrew Jew. In short, a palestinian. Like those people on TV that you see being called terrorists.

Many Nigerians will of course argue with you to the death on this because they want their blue eyed golden haired white skinned GOD.
